Do you often think about the past, when you were healthy?

I was in so much pain today and this afternoon I was going through photos of my kids when they were young. I see pictures of me and my then husband. We all were so healthy and living 'the good life.' I remember when I was a marathon runner - very athletic and just having the time of my life. Where did it all go??? What happened?? I get sad sometimes because I have the tendency to compare to where I am now as to where I was then, with a new chapter of of my life and just do the best I can. So much I had to leave behind to start over again after my divorce. In looking back at my life, I absolutely had NO idea that my future would be me being in chronic pain - trying to adjust with everything that comes up with my illnesses. I know I will feel better tomorrow. I am just very down right now and kind of missing the things I had in the past with my being so healthy. Love, Laurie

I’m feeling the same way this week. Very down and discouraged by not being the old me. Physically or emotionally. I’m hoping things get better. It helps knowing I’m not alone in feeling this way. Hope it helps u too.

Hi Dawn - You said it perfectly! We are NOT alone with our illnesses. This is one of the things that keeps me going. I love this website and feel so grateful for the people that have come into my life because of it. Yes, It does help me get through all the things that are coming up. Also - I have told people on this site, that I really have something to get up for in the morning - and that's this website. Love, Laurie

Hi Laurie, I’m sorry you are having such a hard day, those same feelings pop into my head especially if I see a picture of my self even from 5 years ago, and my first thought would be, wow I never thought about feeling terrible then, I felt so good and didn’t realize how lucky I was to just feel normal. It’s hard to look back, and that’s why I try very hard to only look foreword and be happy for any normal moment within a given day… I focus on now … And not yesterday or tomm, we would prob go a bit nutty if we looked back to often. I guess we have to be happy we had a time in our life that we did feel good, that’s what I try and do, but I do understand exactly what you are feeling… So that’s a blessing right there, we are not alone.
Your right tomm will be better, I would be happy to see some sunshine about now…
Hugs & blessings for a sunny tomm

Hi Dee - Thanks for responding. I am just having one of 'those' days, I guess. It doesn't happen very often and I am grateful for this. Living in the past is not really healthy for me. I go through those 'I feel sorry for myself' phases too. Doesn't last very long though. I do live in the 'now' and I will continue to do so. I just take one day at a time, as this is all I can do. Hugs!! Laurie
