# Flu shot?

Hi there
My fibro started last January after a severe flu. I usually get a yearly flu shot but, obviously, did not do so this past year.
Would it be a good idea to get a flu shot this year or are there any problems related to getting one if you have Fibro??

I get a Flu shot every year, before & after my diagnoses my arm is achey & when I try to use the arm, the arm **reminds** me that I got a Flu shot this week.

Hello - good question. You should always check with your doctor first. However in my experience having Fibro for 16 years I get a flu shot. I have forgotten a couple of years and I got a bad flu a couple of years ago. That was much worse than any temporary side effects of the flu shot. I got my flu shot a few weeks ago :-) . I'd ask your doctor. Getting the flu shot isn't pleasant.Getting the flu is even less so.

i always get the flu shot.. an achy arm is the least of my woes... lol....discuss with your doc and see what he or she thinks. all the best. HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS

I echo most of the discussions above in that I get the flu shot every year. Other than the sore arm, no other side affects and so far I haven't contracted the flu. Chatting with your medical provided is a great idea. Hope it all works out for you.Hugs, ST

Speak with your doctor. I can not take the flu shot due to allergies. I had the flu last year and it was horrible was in bed for 2 weeks.

Hello everyone! I am new to this support group and this actually is my first addition to a discussion. So here it goes. I was diagnosed 5 years ago. Since then I have only got one flu shot and it was awful. The pain stayed in my arm and neck for weeks. I think the nurse hit a nerve. Due to other health issues this year my doc strongly suggested i get one. I have lost alot of weight and don't have much fat on my arm and asked for it in my butt. The nurse said they don't usually do it there but it would be fine. I had less pain but hopefully the shot will be as effective. Best of luck to everyone!

Hi Stella,
I think that if you have egg allergies, you could have problems with the flu shot. I've had fibro for several years and get the flu shot each year with no problems. I suggest that you ask your doctor, considering that you got fibro after a severe flu. I know of no connection of worsening symptoms but I'm no doctor.

That is such a good point. I request my injections be given in the larger glute muscles because they hurt a lot less! However, I have had a nurse hit a nerve back there too, and it was incredibly painful immediately and continued to hurt for a long time. There is no substitute for skill!

I have always had a reaction to the flu shot and I don't see anything different since developing fibro. I would get the shot and prepare to be a bit sore for a few days, that is so much better than having the flu.
