High white blood cell count

has anyone had a slightly elevated white blood cell count with fibromyalgia? Is this common?

If your wbc stays high your doctor should send you to a hematologist because you do have a infection and they will find out where and why. I go to one this coming Thursday because my pc can't get my count down. It will give me a piece of mind as well. Stay on top of it please. Hugs, Robin

I have always had a slightly above average WBC count. I actually just found out this month why. I was diagnosed with Ulcerated Colitis. Do you have any noticeable swelling somewhere? I had to get an emergency CT Scan to see how bad it was. It is not a pleasant thing, but a colonoscopy may not be out of the question. Or an ultrasound of your belly. Just to make sure. Also take tests for Lyme and Lupus as well....I guess RA as well. Since you have to give blood, might as well get it done in one fell swoop.

Good luck!

Hi Mlouise,

I've had slightly elevated wbc's in the past. Don't panic. It can be from any number of causes. Make sure your doctor rechecks your blood. As said, elevated wbc's indicate some sort of infection. Your doctor can determine if there is anything like that going on.

Take care,

Ally

Mine stays around 2.6-low.

Tricky,

Mine was low, similar to yours last time it was checked, but doctor says my immune system is weak. He put me on supplements, such as prebiotics and probiotics, which are good for improving immune function. Also, multivits, b's, minerals, especially zinc. Plus your diet! I've got tons of restrictions in my diet due to other issues but this link gives you an idea of what is best for low wbc/weak immune system.

Ally

always I get blood checked 2 times a year and for at least last 15 yrs it is always slightly elevated.I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis,pa and psoriatic arthritis,anxiety/depression,restless leg syndrome, degenerative disc disease, and copd.

Thank you so much everyone for your input. It kinda had me worried. I will go to the doc again and have him do another lab and check for the other things too. I do have mild IBS so I guess a colonscopy would not be out of the question. My belly has been tender for the past 2 years but I just attributed it to the IBS and weight gain. Seems with Fibromyalgia, there is always something new popping up and something to worry about.

My WBC count has been out of whack many time before as well. My doctor told me at those times I was likely having a marked relapse of my chronic mono (or CFS). These incidents were usually accompanied by worsening symptoms with the horrific exhaustion, sore throat, mitral valve chest pain and palpitations, etc. I also believe my immune system is pretty unusual as well due to so much sickness in my lifetime.

Actually I've had slightly elevated to highly elevated wbc. When it was very high, I had an infection even though I had been on an antibiotic. So a culture was done and they changed the medicine I was taking and it took care of it. At other times, my doctor says it comes with auto immune system disorders where we have inflammation. I am on long term anti inflammatory and it seems now to stay in the normal range. I would question my doctor to get to the root of the problem.

You WBC can vary from person to person.....women...and disease. It is important for you to know what is your "normal."

Ally,
I got my disability before my diagnosis. I have no large intestine. My immune system stays compromised. I stay in all in time now. Well, I have to anyway except for drs. Sometimes I can’t make it there. I just could not miss my pain clinic appt today.

Keep well hon.
