If our bodies are in constant pain how will we know when to really listen?
I can honestly say I don’t know my body anymore… I feel different kinds of pain in different areas almost everyday. I am ignoring quite alot and do not feel in any true control.
I hear u. Over the years I have had to decide when to get a pain looked and when to wait. Its not easy and I have gone to the dr or er and found that there was nothing to the pain. But over Christmas I was having severe pain and decided that since the pain was so bad it was stopping me in my tracks I should see whats wrong. It ended up I had ulcers all over my stomach and some in my intestines as well. After a few months on meds I am much better.
Usually I wait at least 24 hours no matter what is hurting or how bad. After 24 hours if I am still in a lot of pain plus other symptoms I will try to figure out if I need to be looked at or not. I will use the internet to see if I con figure out whats wrong and if it serious or not. This can work for u or against u depending on what u find. Some times u can figure out whats wrong and be sure and other times u can end up scaring yourself.
One thing I hate is when u try to call your dr after hours and they say well if u r in that much pain go to the er. I know they can't always know whats going on over the phone but if they took a few minutes and listened to u and asked a few ?'s maybe they could tell u it would be ok to wait till Monday instead of always saying to go to the er. Yes if they r not sure and it could be dangerous then yes they should say go in now and get checked out.
I guess with fibro we can never be 100% certain if a pain is some thing to worry about or not till we have had the same pain many times. But if u r ever in doubt go see a dr. U cant b too careful with some types of pain. I have noticed that if fibro is the cause or the pain 1 the pain will not intensify 2 it will not radiate 3 it usually will hurt no matter what u do. This may not be true for every ones fibro pain but is almost always true of mine.
HI BB,
We probably can't tell, we need a couple of good Drs for that, a good Primary care and a good Rheumatologist, are the ones I find the most helpful for immediate and long term care. I already had the Primary, took me a long time to realize it was a Rheumatologist I also needed and years to find the one I have.
Hope it is much easier for you!
