So, my office manger got fired on Friday and it was horrible but didn’t relize how it would affect me. I can barley work an 8 hour day so on Tuesday and Thursday i work 9 and a half hours. Im so nervous about it…im gonna take it day by day and hopethey hire someone soon…suggestions welcomed
Hi Necee. That sounds like a very stressful situation and I hope you can slow down and take your work hour by hour, minute by minute, and be able to go home if you cannot do it. I believe that they are required to give you an extra break if you work over 8 hours, but I am not sure of the exact labor law (is it even legal to do that? Was there a contract you signed to work only 8 hours?). Either way, plan on spending your break meditating and relaxing. Also pack everything you need for that extra hour and a half. Tell your support system those days are going to be extra hard so they can be there to help. Oh and do some deep breathing exercises. My therapist taught them to me and it helped a lot with my anxiety. Close your eyes, inhale deeply to a count of 1-2-3, hold your breathe 1-2-3, exhale 1-2-3, and repeat. You dont have to close your eyes but maybe while doing your work it may help you get through each minute.
I wish I could do more. Hang in there. You will be strong. We are all here to support you and root for you. Let us know how it goes. hugs
Hi Necee,
I completely agree with Meow. Also, make sure to take all of your breaks strictly. If you are at a desk, get away from the desk to somewhere you mind and body can relax for 15 or 30 minutes. On my breaks, I usually go outside and sit on a bench they have near one of the buildings. There is very little foot traffic through there and I'm able to shut everything out and just focus on recharging myself mentally and emotionally. Also, one thing I try to remember, no matter how full your plate gets, there is only so much time in the day so don't stress yourself out and overwork thinking you have to get everything done. There is always tomorrow. We are harder on ourselves and have higher expectations of ourselves than our peers do. We hold ourselves to the highest standards so, give yourself some slack : ) I work a compressed schedule from 7:30am to 5pm, so I know how those long days can feel. Usually the first hour and last hour are the hardest. Some days, I give myself a reward every hour I make it through, like a cup of coffee or a light snack...keeps me going. I wish you the best on this journey and am sending good thoughts your way.
Sara
