Bruising and Slurring?

I have been finding myself slurring words at times. Also I seem to find new bruises daily. Anyone else??

Hello Msbigbear,
No I have never had bruises or slurred speech! Maybe it’s a medicine your taking. Check with your doctor or pharmacy too see if it’s a medication reaction. Hope this note finds you feeling better and gotten and answer to your issue. Have a blessed and fantastic evening.

Thanks Shirley!

I go to the doctor on Wednesday so I hope he has an answer. Hope all is well with you.

I have not had slurred speech - at least as far as I know. I do, however, have new bruises all the time! I was just talking to my husband about this over the weekend! No idea if they have any correlation to fibromyalgia. I have recently developed De Quervains tendonitis. It is a truly painful disorder that limits my ability to use my hands and wrists without considerable pain. My General Practitioner is sending me to be seen and diagnosed by an orthaepedist because of my wrists and also my knees. Being 60 is rough with fibro. My body is so ready to retire, but I still need to work to get our house paid off before we retire.

Hi Msbigbear,
I do have word slurring and bruising. The bruising I have associated with ibuprofen use, from rotator cuff issues. Much less bruising when I knock off the ibu, relying on Tylenol and tramadol instead. Certainly doesn’t help the slurring, though.
Best,
Lynne

Hi LovePug

Thanks for the response. It is hard to know what is fibro related or whether to be concerned about other things. I can’t imagine working anymore. We bought our first house in 2009 and I quit my job for disability in 2010. I hope all is well with you.

Hi Lynne,

Thank goodness I am not alone! I don’t always know what to put on to fibro or not. This is just horrible sometimes. My doctor won’t give me anything for pain. I see a lot of people on here use Tramadol so I’m going to see what he says (not holding my breath). Thanks for the info on the ibuprofen though. I never thought of that. I take that everyday. Hope all is well.

Yes, working is NOT easy. I work in a cemetery office and we have hard copy files dating back 81 years. Trying to open some of the drawers is ruining my joints & why I have developed that disorder I mentioned before. We have also just moved my 82-year-old mom in with us last month. Oh, and our daughter just got married this past Saturday! No stress here! I truly do go day by day. When it is too bad I have to stay home in bed. One other thing before I go, please be careful about the amount of NSAIDS or ibuprofen you use. And always take it with food. I used to take those, but can no longer as I ended up with 4 ulcers! Not fun. Tylenol is my only OTC option and it can barely dull the pain some days.

LovePug, wow is all I can say! You are definitely stressed. I can’t imagine having that all going on at once! I find it hard with raising my grandson. I do find he keeps me hopping which is a good thing. There are days though that I could stay in bed. I plan to try and cut out ibuprofen for the most part. Tylenol rarely works for me though. I did get some Tramadol today from my doctor for “really” bad days. I hope you are well.

I have bruises too. Then I just try to remember from where I could have got that. I don’t take any pain killers, I hate taking so many medicines. I am on Duloxitine 30mg from last 2 years. Some days are horrible and depressed some are okay.

I have slurred speech sometimes it’s a common side affect for lyrica. Also anything that can mess with gaba receptors. I want to say this syndrome is very difficult to deal with, without tramadol. I use to find myself really irritated and tramadol changed my irritation levels and lowered my pain levels. I think if you’re not getting the attention you need ask your dr for a reference to a rheumatologist or go get a second opinion.

I have a tendency to do that too. Although, I have iron deficiency so I think I can say that, that is where my bruises come from.
The slurring, it happens but I have no idea about the origin of that.

Thanks for the responses! I have had some blood tests and am anemic which I assume is the cause of bruises. I haven’t actually talked to my doctor yet on the results. I’m sorry that you guys have slurring as well but at least I know I am not nuts. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I hope you are all doing ok. Take care.

Hi Cheryl, how was your doctors appointment? I pray that you got some answers that you needed. Have a blessed and fantastic day!

Hi Shirley. My doctor ended up giving me Tramadol to help on really bad days. I was so shocked. He also ran lots of blood work to again rule out lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. That came back fine. It did show that I am anemic though which I assume is causing the bruising. He sent me all the results with no indication on what to do next. Go figure. :rage: He is at least trying to help. Hope this finds you well.

Hi Cheryl,
I’m happy to hear your test came back negative yay! I also take Tramodal for pain. And I’m taking Lyrica for the fibro. And Diclofenac for my arthritis pain. I hope the Tramodal is working for your! I take 50mg pills every 6 hours or as needed. Hopefully this note finds you well and in good spirits. Have a blessed and fantastic week!:revolving_hearts:

I find new bruises every day. I never thought of it being Fibro. I actually thought it was my age(73) I wonder if it IS Fibro now that you mention it.

Hi Liz,
Do you take any nsaids, by any chance? Just double checking. I take, by turns, Tylenol, ibuprofen, and tramadol but mostly for an actual shoulder injury. When I knock off the ibuprofen the mystery bruises slow up quite a bit.
Warm wishes,
Lynne

Hi Lynne, no I don’t take any Tylenol etc. I DO Take Gabapentin
