Its been awhile since Ive checked in. The main reason being that I was in denial that I even had fibro. Now, after a year and a half of struggling.. Im here looking for guidance on what to do now. I spent two years being misdiagnosed by doctors, and taking stimulants that just made my fibro worse. Im angry and confused, and need some sort of way to fix this rut that ive gotten myself in. I go back to school in a few weeks and have zero clue how I can even manage another semester. My fibro makes me so tired that I cant even stay awake long enough to study for my classes. If anyone has any clue of what I should do, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know.
I agree that speaking to your doctor is a great idea. Another avenue to explore is to see if you have a sleep disorder. It is my understanding that some fibro patients have a sleep disorder and that compounds symptoms especially fatigue. I am one of those patients and I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). I stopped breathing 11 times an hour while sleeping. Before I started to sleep with a CPAP machine, I feel asleep every evening after dinner and worst of all I would fall asleep while working. I would fall asleep anytime I was sitting still and I was afraid to drive. With the CPAP machine, I am alert and feel the fatigue minimally compared to before. If you haven't had this checked out I would encourage you to speak to your doctor. Good luck. I am sure you will find some strategies to help you.
Hello, that is awesome you are in college! If you haven't already, please check out the Fibro 101 guide it lists helpful information. Finding / designing the right treatment plan for you is really important so I encourage you to continue working with your doctor on this. When I was first diagnosed, I took a combination of medications. After a few years, I got tired of it and felt like it wasn't working so I went off the meds with my doctor's approval. I then went about 9 years with no regular meds and did pretty well overall. Now I am taking a medication again that also is helping some of the symptoms. With Fibro, it can be ever-evolving so it is good to keep an open mind on treatment options, including non medicated ones. For me, I tried physical therapy this year and found that really beneficial. I also suggest you join the Mindfulness and Relaxation group on here, that might help as well. Hugs!
I'm sorry to hear you've been misdiagnosed and all that stuff. I'm 19 and I also go to school. I'm experiencing the same difficulties. Too tired to study and sometimes too much pain to even go to class. Is there someone out there in your school, a teacher or a special person, to talk about your problems? There's a special person in my school and she's trying to help me to find some sort of 'solution' to every difficulty I experience. I have a special status, I may walk around a bit during exams when I'm in pain and I'm allowed to stay home when I'm not able to come. My teachers and my classmates know about my illness which makes it easier. All these little things will help you! Just try to do your best and rest when your body asks for it. Take care of yourself and study page by page. Don't be mad if you can't do everything but be proud if you managed to do something for school. It's a hard time fighting to come through every week, but in the end it's worth it. Just stay true to yourself, step by step you will come there even though you're slowlier than other students. That doesn't matter. It's about what you did, not about how long it took to do it.
I hope this is helpful to you. You can always send me a message if you want :)
I would investigate eating scientifically. There are many foods that are termed healthy by the health gurus out here; that are outright health disruptors. I use science to maintain wellness and health. I once had sciatic pain for 3+ years and in less than 1 week my pain was 85% better and that was 5 years ago. No corn or string beans for me.
