Hi everyone! My name is Elissa and I have been living with fibromyalgia and sjogrens for 13 years now. I am moving to Littleton Colorado and would love a recommendation for a doctor out there. I am currently on a fentanyl patch, which changed my life. Before that, I could barely move. This little patch has allowed me to be as close to my pre-fm self as possible. I’m not big into narcorics by any means but I was hoping to find a doc who understood they are necessary. Does anyone have a suggestion/referral for a pain doc? Thank you!

Hi Elissa!
Welcome to the community My name is David and I live in Massachusetts. I actually had been on Fentanyl patch for a year I think maybe 2. I just switched off it to be honest. I am on Oxycodone 5mg 3-4 times a day as needed but like I said I just switched off from Fentanyl to Oxycotin 10mg twice a day. The Oxycotin is extended release so that is suppose to take place of the Fentanyl and the Oxycodone as needed throughout the day. I notice that Fentanyl helped my back tremendously. The last 2 mornings since I’ve done the switch my back is very sore so we will see how this works out. I can tell a lot of people with Fibromyalgia don’t want to necessarily go the narcotic route and I can’t blame them. I have pre-existing conditions I mentioned in my “saying hi” thread. I wish I could help you on locating a doctor in the area. Does your current doctor have a doctor they could recommend in Littleton?
Look forward to chatting with you!
David
Hi David. Thank you for the reply. I feel that I should give my two cents on what you wrote in hopes it will prevent what happened to me, to happen to you.
When I was first diagnosed, I was seeing a Doctor Who was running a pill mill. I didn’t realize it at the time, but every time I went to see him he would up the dosage of my Roxicodone, which essentially made me depended on it. That being said, I decided to go see somebody else because I was tired of getting facet injections that we’re doing nothing. That was the whole ruse behind it. He made his money by giving people crap injections and getting them hugs on meds. I’m not saying that your doctor would ever do that, but, I have found that being on pills, is much more likely to make you become dependent on them (not addicted) and the fentanyl patch is much safer because it doesn’t make you loopy and give you the high the pills do. All I’m saying is, please be very careful with your oxy and seriously think about talking to your doctor about going back to the fentanyl patch.
Take care! Gentle hugs, Elissa
Hi Elissa,
I appreciate your feedback. I believe the Fentanyl patch was making me loopy especially on hot days which seemed to make my symptoms worse. Both are narcotics. The patch is still a prescription but that only won’t help my symptoms. I need to just move more so I can feel better overall without all these meds. That would be nice. I’m sorry you went through that. In Massachusetts they are cracking down on crack (NO just kidding LOL). They are cracking down on opiods in the state. The doctors can’t over-prescribe and they are weeding out a lot of the people who abuse the system. Our governor has been on top of it. It does make it annoying when your trying to fill something sometimes but it could be worse. Thanks again for you cents. I will think about it.
Take Care,
David
