Has Anyone Tried the Natural Herbal Approach?

Just wondering. I have been looking into some herbs for anxiety. I would love to find a helpful and more natural approach to the klonopin. I plan to go to a local herb store tomorrow. I understand the woman there is an excellent herbalist and is quite helpful. I will of course talk to my doc before starting any herbal remedy.

Has anyone done this for any type of ailment? Has it worked?

Actually, my main reason for wanting to go is to see if I can get Jasmine in bulk. I love Jasmine tea.

L-Kitty, I have not but just want to remind you to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking the herb, to be sure it won't interact with your meds.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Hi L - Kitty ,
Many homeopathic dr. Recommend herbs for just about everything
I know there are a lot of options for herbal remedies for anxiety, I have read that many are helped, but I have not tried myself. I think it’s a reasonable option, but def check with your dr. Before trying, let us know if it works, I go to the whole food store all the time for supplements and natural things, just not for anxiety, but I would if you found a tea that helped .

I do take herbs for anxiety and depression. I take a st. john's wart tablet (which is called Remotiv if you have it where you are), a valarian tablet, and passion flower extract when I am having an anxiety attack. These are really good herbs for anxiety, but there are two things you need to remember;

1. Talk to your doctor about it, it's not good to take st. john's wart with antidepressants. You need to be careful if you're taking tramadol as well. You also need to be careful if you are mixing passion flower extract with sedatives.

2. You need to make sure you are getting a good quality tablet/mixture because some of the cheaper ones may not have the proper kind of plant or it may not have the correct amount needed for a therapeutic effect.

I've had really good results with the herbs, though I will say they aren't as strong as the pharmaceuticals. But you also don't get the nasty side effect ;)

Thank you dee. I sure wish medical insurance paid better for homeopathic services and remedies. I do the same as you going to the "good stores" for supplements, etc. I did go to a herb store last week and met a great woman. She has a ton of knowledge. We talked for a long time. She confirmed the fact that B Complex (not just B-12) will help strengthen the nervous system and said it was a great start. She didn't try to sell me anything. She did give me a great hint. I've been taking B Complex supplements. She said always take them on an empty stomach. An hour before eating. Otherwise the chemicals/acids in the stomach that occur for digestion will destroy the value of the vitamin. She said only take multi-vitamins with food. All others take on an empty stomach. It's hard to do because I am used to taking my handful of fibro meds in the a.m. and then reach for my coveted cup of coffee. I haven't figured out when to work my vitamins into my day correctly yet. I think I need to carry some around with me so I can have them when I'm away from home too.

Thanks dee. Blessings to you too.

Thanks Emma. Yes, I've known about St. John's Wart and have hesitated because I do take other meds. I don't take tramadol or ultram. I look forward to being less dependent on Klonopin (which I've talked about a lot on here) and vicodin (which I take sparingly) so I can start to introduce herbs. It's good to know about passion flower. I plan on doing research for myself and taking it to my doc. I will include that one and valarian.

It's all very hopeful. I want to reduce meds, which means I hope to withdraw from some things. I need hope to plan on that. And an empty calendar. Not fun.

Thanks again Emma.

Hi everyone. I purchased an herbal supplement for anxiety today. I am to put 1 to 3 drops under my tongue when I am going to see my daughter, who continues to be my largest source of stress at the present time. I have not used it yet because I haven't seen my doc. This tincture is made from flowers. Contains Clematis, Rock Rose, Impatiens, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum...oh and alcohol. It's called Calming Essence, from Traditional Flower Remedies.

It all sounds very sweet and floral, but we will see!

Hugs to you all.

This herbal tincture did not work for me.
