There are people who do have paradoxical effects from meds! (Like my sister who gave her then 3 yr old Benadryl in hopes she would sleep from SC to VA...only to have her bounce in back seat all the way)!!! And it does sound like you did in addition to the sleep deprived psychosis. Most people can't go past 72 hrs w/o having effects...less for others. It is very frightening and sorry for what you went through. As a nurse in the ED, I do sympathize w/what you went thru. And I had a hard time when younger understanding why someone with pain would want to end their life to stop the pain. The longer I was in nsg (now 35 yrs) I can empathize more. Our mental health consultants won't talk w/a pt that is under the influence of meds or alcohol as it does not give them an accurate assessment of a pt. I wish you had stayed until the meds had cleared your system. And then perhaps you could have better explained as if it happens again, all this will be in your medical record. And some ins. co. will not pay when a pt does this. Please see if you can get in touch with that psychiatrist and give him some articles from online about this type of reaction and induced psychosis and tell him you thought he might need a refresher!!! Good luck sweetie! Sorry for your experience.
