New to Fibro, got a few questions?

I have a few symptoms that I am not sure if it is fibro related or not.. I quit breathing in the middle of the night,it wakes me up out of a dead sleep...And very strange dreams, almost nightmares....Am pretty new to fibro. Ive had MS for 6 years...So not new to dealing with diseases by any means..

I would have to say the fibro is more draining than the MS by all means!!

Hello Alyson and welcome to our group. We're happy to have you and feel free to ask us any questions that you may have.

Ok, on to your question at hand: I'm no doctor but what you're describing sounds a lot like sleep apnea. Do you snore a lot? Have a short, thick neck? People with sleep apnea say yes to both. Sometimes we're overweight as well.

.

Here is a bit of info for you about sleep apnea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_apnea

I would strongly suggest asking your doctor for a sleep study, due to your symptom. If you're found to have sleep apnea, you'll be given a CPAP machine for nights. It's worn while you sleep and does help you to feel more refreshed. Also,, my rheumatologist warned me that I was harming my body from ignoring the sleep apnea.

I hope this is helpful. Do be aware that many of us using this board have apnea issues, so feel free to ask us about it.

Goodluck,

Petunia

Hi Alyson,

I don't believe this is a symptom of Fibro. Usually insomnia comes with Fibro. I found this website with a Google search maybe it will be helpful. You may also want to discuss this with your doctor too.

As far as you having strange dreams and/or nightmares, there are many reasons and causes for this and once again I do not believe this is related to Fibro specifically. I did another Google search and it's interesting as they mention one of the causes could be medications such as anti-depressants and narcotics that act on chemicals in the brain. I'm sure you will find the link below informative.

I hope this helps!
