I went for a second opinion after my previous dr just closed me down and would not listen. I kept explaining I was hurting worse. He just kept adding more pills and increasing the doses. My new doctor told me today there is no doubt about it. I definitely have lupus. He was completely shocked when he saw everything I was on. He is going to start backing me off the medicines that my previous dr has me on for fibromyalgia slowly to help keep withdrawal to a minimum. And start me on lupus treatment. I’m really glad I went to see him. My other dr just kept saying I was always going to hurt there was nothing that could be done about it. This dr as told me that when I get off all these meds (which could be 6 months from now with everything I’m on) and am on the correct treatment, that yes I will have flares, but I will also have good days as well. I am so thrilled that I have something to look forward to now instead of just a painful dead end.
Hello Tarra,
Hooray, at last you have found a Doc who is listening to you. I don't know much about Lupus, but at least you can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for sharing your story with us, and let us know how you are getting on.
Take care, Anne
Hi Tarra,
I'm so glad that you found a doctor that will listen to you and create a customized treatment plan to help you feel better : ) I know that feeling and what a relief it is to have a provider that listens to your concerns and appropriately addresses them.
Hugs,
Sara
Hi, Tarra.
This is a great success. Now you can move forward in treatment. I hope things start to turn around quickly.

Hi Tarra, I am glad you were persistent and found a doctor who listens. Did he feel you also have Fibro or just the Lupus? Many people have both. With the right treatment plan (and a good doctor really helps with this) it is possible to manage the Fibro symptoms and have a good life. Please check in periodically and let us know how you are doing. Hugs.
Hi Tara,
Ohhhhhhhhhh, haaaaaapppy daaaaayyys!!!!
I'm glad you found the missing piece of your auto-immune puzzle. It seems that most people get their fibro diagnosis this way, too. Too many doctors who just REFUSE to say, "I don't know what's causing this, so I'm referring you to a specialist or a second opinion." Instead, they give you a junk diagnosis, feed you some pills, then take off. And one day, you find a doctor who takes your symptoms seiously and treats them. Again, ohhhhhh, haaaaapppy daaaaaaayyyy, glooorious daaaaayyyy!
The reality is if you are feeling much worse and the pain just won't go away at all, then it's time for more medical help. It's no good when a doctor gives up and refuses to consider the possibility that you have something beyond fibro.
Good for you for being brave enough to get a second opinion! And it's great that you can be weaned off a bunch of drugs, then be put on the correct drug so you can get meaningful treatment and a hopeful reduction of pain. And the reality is that lupus can't be ignored or else you may damage your organs.
And lastly, lupus and fibro often go hand in hand. Some people only get a few lupus symptoms plus fibro. Do you know if you also have fibro or is your dx lupus only? It certainly sounds like your doctor has your back, so congratulations on this find!
Idk yet. Guess we will find out.
Ok, god luck.
