Potential Link Between Gluten Allergy/Sensitivity and Fibro?

I tried out the app today. It is great, but I was across the street from an Applebees - Applebees did not appear on the list even though I know they have gluten free options(although limited).

It is a great app though and was of help, thank you very much for recommending it.

Very quick update... They loved the cheesecake; Mother in law is being very difficult regarding my dietary changes and says things like "Oh, a flour tortilla probably only has a little flour. Probably no gluten." Even though I've explained it to her over and over. Also keeps telling me that I shouldn't be gluten free because I'm limiting myself on enjoyment in life... Really!?

Made some smoked Gouda mac n' cheese with some gluten free, corn flour based noodles. The noodles tasted absolutely normal. Also, I think I may have my real answer regarding whether I need to really be gluten free or not...

Went to Atlantic City with hubby's mom and sister. I packed myself an apple with gluten free caramel, some gluten free pretzels, and lots of water. MIL ate all of my pretzels... Even though she had her own snacks... In Atlantic City, I was hungry because I couldn't eat my own pretzels, and sister in law decided we would all go for burgers... Okay.... I sat there and ate nothing while everyone else was eating, so I had some of hubby's fries and a couple bites of his burger (what was I to do!? I was hungry and broke because we spent all our money on his mom! But I digress..) and that night, I already felt it. Next day I had a fibro flare up, along with a migraine and some GI problems and had some problems keeping healthy food down. Could barely get out of bed and it took me roughly two hours to do so because my body was so sore and stiff. My legs, back and arms were cramping and spasming, as if I was smack dab in the middle of a month long really bad flare. All day I drank lots of water, paid closer attention than normal to what I ate, and went to bed very early (I felt so exhausted).

I feel quite a bit better today.

B2chi,

The only cure for celiac disease is to go completely gluten free. The difference between intolerance and celiac in the matter of diet is that if you have celiac, you can not handle any type of cross contamination because even the smallest amount of gluten can cause damage to your intestines. Since I do not currently have insurance and can not be tested, I am going gluten free on my own. After a few months to a year, if I am still having any type of GI issues, I will plan on cutting out any potential for cross contamination. There is no way I would personally start eating gluten again just to get tested, considering there is a level of addiction that we all have to gluten, whether we have intolerance, celiac or none of the above.

Good Luck suzyq! I personally would not cut out gluten and sugar completely all at once. From what I noticed, cutting out gluten actually seems to force you to cut out a lot of sugar that you may not notice you've been ingesting. I would first go gluten free for a few weeks, and then I would cut out whatever refined sugar may be left in your diet. I especially would not go vegan suddenly when going gluten free. If you currently have meat and other animal products in your diet, and you cut that stuff out along with cutting out gluten at the same time, you may find it extremely overwhelming. It also could be a big shock to your body and make you sick. Just go slow. What did the dietitian recommend as far as timing?

Good Luck!

Okay, so husband's family has left the building. It was a very stressful couple of days and now I'm doing a lot of catch-up around the house. Mother in law got me a used bread make from a thrift store, which could be great as long as I don't have celiac. I'm going to try making some homemade gluten free bread, but first I'm going to try a gluten free mix that I picked up at the store. The stuff that's needed for gluten free homemade bread is super expensive. I am hoping that maybe I'll find at least one recipe that actually tastes good, or at least better than the store bought stuff looks...

We took a day trip to Atlantic City - MIL ate all of my gluten free pretzels that I had brought for myself (which I think I wrote about somewhere on page 2 of this discussion)

My mom told me that a lot of Oscar Mayer products have gone gluten free, so I'm planning on checking into that.

I've been to three restaurants since I've gone gluten free, and only one person was nice about me asking about the food. That was at a salad place and the manage went to the back to check to make sure that the dressings he thought were gluten free, in fact were. Other people were all very rude at other places though. We went to Applebees and every time I tried to ask the server a question, she blew me off... We ended up ordering spinach dip for the table, thinking I could have that, only to find out that it was not on a gluten free list that we found online for applebees. I said that it probably wasn't safe for me to eat it, and instead I just ate my meal.

S'moreables graham crackers are awesome, but I guess the texture is a little more like a cookie than a graham cracker. Also, I'm looking for a really yummy gluten free cookie recipe (I love cookies), as the gluten free cookies at the stores are pretty pricy, and not all that tasty. So if anyone has a gluten free cookie recipe (maybe with not a large amount of ingredients?), I'm all ears!

Has anyone tried the gluten free domino's pizza yet? I'm planning on trying it within the next few days.

Also, it seems like tacos have been a huge part of my diet since I've gone gluten free. All on the little corn tortillas. Steak fajitas, chicken tacos, steak sandwich meat tacos... I feel like I am definitely going to get very burnt out on tacos, but they are so easy and you can put anything in them.... Any suggestions for other easy home meals that are gluten free and not tacos? lol

Also, the reason tacos work out so well, is because I don't need a lot of meat in them and I don't feel like I'm getting robbed if there's not a lot of meat in them. My husband and I are trying to cut back on our meat, after watching TedTalk's "Chew On This," and realizing that we are each supposed to only have a half pound of meat a week and most people eat that every day...

So, I guess I'm really looking for some easy, home meals that are tasty, gluten free, and don't require a lot of meat to be eaten... (I.e. I don't want to eat a big steak every day or a whole chicken breast..)

Also, the garden is really starting to grow. The hot pepper plants already have quite a few peppers, and everything else has at least flowered. I can't wait to have some fresh, home grown, and FREE produce!
