I'm trying really hard to put together a walk/run/bike excetra for Fibromyalgia in my County here in Florida. I have 2 potential sponsors but I don't know where to start or WHAT I'm doing. You never see anything in my area for us out there suffering from fibromyalgia and I'm trying to bring more or any awareness to my community. I would absolutely LOVE to be able to do this but like I said I don't know what on earth in doing. I was hoping someone out there might read this and have some kind of advice for me! Thanks a lot everyone, I would greatly appreciate anything ANYONE has to offer!
Danabell, I commend you for wanting to help raise awareness, and I hope others may have information for you. I would think that if you contacted the National Fibromyalgia Organization (http://www.fmaware.org/) or a similar organization that they would be only too happy to assist you in setting up an event. Keep us posted -- we would like to hear how it goes.
What a great idea Danabell! Unfortunately I've never organized something like this but I wanted to tell you I think it is a fabulous idea and I wish you great success. HUGS!
I have to second Dancermom’s recommendation. What I have found is that, if you don’t see any local activities it’s because there’s no local chapter of the national group. One of my other conditions has the same situation with no local chapter. I usually go to DC to participate. I don’t think that the NFA has organized walks yet, but they do have the FMS awareness day. People host events like dinner parties and such. Whatever you decide to do, I’m sure they are happy for the help. Just be careful that you don’t overcommit yourself; it can happen before you realize it!
