What do you do to make sure you get a good nights sleep? I am having a lot of problems sleeping at night and then I can’t get up in the mornings. Right now, I am so tired, I feel like I could go right to sleep. However, I know when 11 PM rolls around, I’ll be wide awake!
I have a lot of problems sleeping. In the last couple of years I had one night of good sleep without sleeping pills. I now use ambien for when I just NEED to sleep.
Thanks Mindy, I’m on about 3 meds now and really didn’t want to have to take sleeping pills, but I’m beginning to think I may have to take something so I can sleep !
I was in the same bed as Mindy and you, Karen (little fun there!).
Took me years of trying different things- warm baths, cool room, no TV or computer before, melatonin, holistic sleep pills, ambien, amitryptaline, doxepin, Valium. You name it, I’ve tried it. Sleep study showed I never get into the REM stage of sleep or very little, had problems going to sleep and staying asleep. Finally found a sleep doctor who upped the dosages of things I used by themselves and combined them. Now take trazadone and lunesta and the first night I took it I slept a straight 10 hours. My husband kept checking me afraid something was wrong. Dosage is 100 mg and 3 mg respectively.
I found that I can’t have any caffeine after 2:00pm or it interferes in sleep. Also, alcohol is the worst for keeping me awake. Haven’t had a drink in forever! And now with drugs at night alcohol is a real no no. There are nights where I still wake up but it’s when I’m in a lot of pain. On nights where I get lots of sleep, it’s not that refresh “I can now do anything” restful sleep. But whatever sleep it is, it does help with helping me feel better than before. I hope you’re able to find something that helps you soon, Karen.
Thank you Sandi!
No caffeine after 12N. I take my nite Meds @ 7P, by the time 10P comes I am ready to sleep. I get 9 to 10hrs. If I didn't have my nite Meds I wouldn't sleep either. Mirtazapine 45mg, Clonazepam 0.5mg, Amitriptyline two 75mg, The Amitriptyline helps keep my migraines at bay. I am not the only person in my immediate family (daughter, niece & sis) who takes Clonazepam, it is usually for anxiety, but it was given to me to keep from killing someone, or punching a wall.
Hi Karen - this is surely a hot topic for most anyone with Fibro. This has been a very complex issue for me for over 20 years. I struggle with it every day and all of the sleep hygiene ideas just don't even touch the problem for me. Unrestfull sleep is the hallmark of this illness. For me, I have trouble getting to sleep at bedtime, then staying asleep and then once I get to sleep, it is so very hard for me to wake up. I find that I need from 10-12 hours of sleep every day in order to have any kind of productive time awake. Everyone is different and it might be helpful to try and figure out how much sleep you need to feel some improvement during the day. Take care and remember to rest even when you can't sleep.

Luna - I had been on 1 mg clonazepam for about 4 years for my TMJ. Have slowly weaned myself off of it per sleep doc orders. But now my jaw is sore and tight. Also helped with restless leg.
Linnie - you are so right about getting any sleep whenever you can. Not everyone sleeps at night!
The best iv'e found for sleeping and especially something you don't build up a tolarance to it Fndep it is a coummonly used Fibr drug some say it kelps with pain but I don' think it doed. It makes you sleepy and it stops you from waking it up all time, For your pain and I think you- are tramadol gives good pain relief but you do need a script but you've have to get a script so you really have to get a good GP you got to have trust with your doctor but most people take some medications to help tone down some or all of the symptoms you have tio learn to pace yourself because you just get exhausted not tired physicaly exhausted it is a hard diagnosis so information gives you some control of it instead of it being in contro of you I am a RN and had to give up nursing because I was sicker and in more pain then them ironic isn't it so hang in there baby you got the rest of your life to learn about the curse Jeannie
I know that feeling too well. Absolutely shattered and still can’t sleep. How is that?! In the end you get anxiety when it comes to 9pm which makes it worse too!
And then you get a “good” nights sleep and feel worse! Grrrrrrrr lol.
A good bedtime routine helps. Like for kids. Doing things that you only do before bed tells your brain when it’s time. A bath, then supper, then hot choc just before sleep for example.
Or a huge dose of amitryptiline, a few Valium and a couple sleepers! Just kidding guys but it does make you wonder what you have to do to actually get to sleep and stay asleep sometimes!
So funny! I’m beginning to think that’s what I need to do, more pills! I really need to change my diet and exercise, but it’s so hot here and usually by the time I get home from work, I’m beat!
I know what you mean Jeannie! I also apparently have some autoimmune disease (they think Lupus, but haven’t diagnosed it yet) and its hard to figure out what symptoms go with what. I toss and turn all night, they can’t get up. It’s getting worse and worse. I was getting to work around 9:15, now it’s more like 10 or 10:30! Luckily, I own the place! And, we are going out of town this weekend for my parents 50th wedding anniversary, so I’m sure I’m going to be really exhausted nd having to sleep in a different bed is probably not going to work. I’m sure ill be paying for it all next week!
I understand completely I really don't know how I did what I did It was absote torture I feel for you baby but if go can't do it You' CAN'T DO IT it's not a crime your just in to much pain and your exhausted don't fight it, it won't go away. Luv & Hugs Jeannie
I’m really learning my limits. I have a flowers shop and during wedding season am used to working 60 plus hours a week. It’s pretty hard labor, non-stop. I also do a lot of wedding setups in the heat and I’ve found out that I can’t lift 20 lbs of center pieces! Don’t know when I became so weak! I also got really hot doing a setup and it made me deathly ill, so no more heat stroke for me! If I d that if I over do it, I pay for it the next few days. I had an event tonight, did setup with my driver, came home for a bit to rest and change clothes because I had to attend the event and I was practically falling asleep on the couch. Could barely keep my eyes open. Had to make myself get dressed and go. Now I’m sure ill be up all night!
My nero doctor changed the times of my meds and I try and stay with a routine at night I rarely watch tv I try and read for awhile take a warm bath and I play relaxing music.
