Testing for fm

i see a few people refer to blood tests for fm

what specifically are doctors looking for in blood results that help with the diagnoses of fm?

According to John Quintner, MD, Rheumatologist and Pain Specialist, the test is bogus. This is the only medical opinion we have thus far. If my list for my Rheumatologist is not too long, I'll ask him at end of month, but it is already very long.

My Rheumatologist explained fibromyalgia from my stand point as a condition caused by chronic pain, that changes the brain, and soon instead of pain in just one area (meaning the specific area of injury or disease) that it spreads into the entire body until everyplace is nearly as painful as the affected area. He says fibro IS CAUSED BY CHRONIC PAIN. So the real question is what caused the chronic pain, the stress response, and finding it. Doesn't sound like there is any upside to the test except for the Dr who is promoting it is profiting by it.

I am wondering if some of the responses you saw were in regards to the blood tests you take as a test of exclusions for any other disease that could be causing the symptoms. If not I agree with SK that they are bogus from everything that I have researched online and asked my doc.

With respect, how can pain cause itself? Pain is not a causative agent that can change the brain. In fact, our brains create the unique lived experience that we call pain.

Yes I agree they do it to rule out other possible diagnoses. Plus yep they make money from it over there too. They do blood tests in England for anything you can imagine really. Too much spare time… Maybe they could use it to actually know what they’re talking about…? Meeeeow!
