I took descated thyroid when I was a teenager for a short time it worked so well then I didn't even need it anymore .Now I need it and my doctor said they don't make it anymore .I am crying as I write this I haven't hardly been out of bed in weeks and they doubled the levothyroxine .I hope I can find a pharmacy like that.I know it is alot better than what I am taking.
Hi mike, I have every symptom of thyroid disease but my blood work is always normal, recently I was going to add an endocrinologist to my list of dr’s but couldn’t even get an appointment with out blood work to back up an issue… So stupid, because I saw this dr, 7 years ago for hair loss, and now they won’t see me even with a referral because my blood work doesn’t indicate that I have a problem. So frustrating !!!
My mother also had thyroid cancer, and I remember it was told to me at that time that calcitonin levels should be checked yearly… So next week I go to my primary dr & I’m going to ask her to check my calcitonin level… Can’t hurt. I think I may get that book also… Stop the thyroid madness.
Hope your doing ok…

Wow. That's crazy, Dee because the one thyroid test doesn't always catch thyroid issues, from what I understand. And especially since thyroid cancer ran in your immediate family...just wow. Can you try going to a different endocrinologist? I went to one because of my weird eyebrows (patchy with little left on the outer part of the brow) even though my initial blood test was normal. I'd think you have far more reason to go than me...so I hope you can find a doc who'll take you and test you, so you can have peace of mind. That was my reason as well, plus I have suspicions of another endocrine-related illness that I also wanted checked out.
Hugs to you, my friend,
Petunia
Thanks petunia… I think your right, i am going to look for another endocrinologist !
It’s always frustrating when looking for a good dr. And then it’s months to get in, but perhaps I shouldn’t let that other dr discourage me into just forgetting it…
Thanks for the encouragement to keep looking
Your a gem !
Hope you get those brows back… lol thank god for makeup !!

I take dessicated thyroid. It's not prescription, you buy it on your own. It is better than the synthetic T4 or T3 because it is the whole thyroid gland of either a pig or a cow, almost exact to human thyroid, including the 12 different chemicals/hormones in the thyroid gland, which are not treated with just T3 or T4..I've tried many brands of "whole thyroid" from health food stores, I found one that works best for me. I get mine here. http://www.nutri-meds.com/thyroid_supplements_s/33.htm
Thank you all... I have forwarded the responses to my friend and she is very grateful to everyone who has responded. She may be joining the group, at least I hope so xx

Due to some of my symptoms, an endocrinologist checked me for parathyroid issues. Everything was fine there. Most of the odd symptoms and traits ended up being attributed to the EDS but there is some confusion as to whether Ehlers Danlos causes some of my issues, like the thyroid problems or not. The geneticist said the EDS might not be the cause of ALL of my issues but a lot of people with EDS do have thyroid issues so who knows. My parathyroid was fine though.
