Hey there,

All of my problems started when I started taking thyroid medicine. I’m not sure if coincedental or if my thyroid is causing my pain or what. We are still trying to figure it out. My thyroid was very low and I had all the low thyroid symptoms so I started on meds. My symptoms improved for a month and then I just went down hill and was in horrible pain. My thyroid is normal but my pain and fatigue are still a major issue. My family doctor referred me to an endo to try and figure it out. I think thyroid is fairly common with fibro and from what I’ve read and learned from others the symptoms are very much the same.
I have hypothyroid and was diagnosed with this just weeks before being told I have Fibro. I have followed my Pc advice and I'm doing fine. :)
I have had problems with my thyroid for about 6 years now`
This seems to be the topic of the week. My thyroid is normal, last it was checked--now? who knows... But I'm wishing you well Mike!

HI MIKE I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HYPOTHYROID APRIL 21 2010 I WAS PU ON MEDS THEJ DIAGNOSED WITU FIBRO JAN 2012 I WAS LOSING WEITHT LAST FALL THE FIBRO MED WAS TOO LOW IS FIJE YOU SHOULD HAVE IT CHECKED SUMMER AND WINTER QND IF YOUR DOSAGE CHANGED YOU HAVE. TO HWGE IT TESTED UNTIL ITS BETWEEN. 03-3.0. THE SYMPTOKA ARE ALMOST IDENTICAL. GO TO MARY SHOMON.COM FOR MORE INFO
I have hypothyroid that is genetic and doesn't show up in tsh tests. It was only found after a doctor tested all the thyroid antibody levels. I take levothyroxine and it helps me tremendously. I get really sick if I go odd of it. I still have fibro but I take vitamin D, magnesium and gabapentin that all help. Nothing is going to cure me though because I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which is incurable. A lot of my issues are related to the EDS, especially almost constant joing dislocations and subluxations. I have osteoarthrtitis and a lot of other issues from the EDS. The thyroid I is probably not related to the EDS but I know several EDS people who also have thyroid issues. Not sure if this helps or not but that's my experience.
I have a small cell mass on my thyroid, Was to have it removed years ago. Don't know if cancerous or not.
Yes, under active. Don’t know if it is a result of the fibromyalgia. The meds they put me on helped a lot.
Yes I i have hashimoto's which your sugar levels go up and down with what you eatI know that says pancreas to most but it is the thyroid that creates the enzems to make everything else work to gethermy last blood tests showed it had gotten worse so they have doubled my levothyxoine, Back to the doc this next week They suspect my thyroid may have been further damaged by radiation and chemo I recieved for cancer. I have met a few fibro people with thyroid problems and iodine defciency.hey ussually are also very sensitive to chemicals like household cleaning products .If you can't bear to part with them store them outside of your house locked up so kids can't get into them of course.
Gabapentin and neurontin they are the same both made me stammer and made it haard for me to find words,I finnally quit when my mother whois a geriatric RN noticed I was having strange mouth movements like tardive dyskinsia good luck My thyroid is also shot.
You need a different doctor now. If your thyroid is enlarged you really need to have it ultra-sounded and be put on proper meds. The thyroid is what makes the enzymes that contol the whole metabolism of your body, with fibro you need to be at your best ,Please get a second opinin from a gastroenterologist or go to a teaching hospital and ask them they know more about this as it is now being taught many doctors do not realize the damage a "little low" can do it can even be part of cancer ,Please see someone who knows what they are doing not a general practicioner or endo it seems would do
I’m sure I have a thyroid problem along with FM and CF. Having difficulty with getting it diagnosed. I have noticed a lot of people with FM also have FM.
I bet the thyroid and the EDS are related because of what the thyroid does it makes enzymes that controll all the cell in your body ,it controls your metablism
Please PLEASE have it checked again
I dont - they continuously check me because thyroid runs in my family and my sis had thyroid cancer in her 30's
Mike, it seems that thyroid problems go along with fibro. Quite a few people here have mentioned being hypothyroid. My numbers were ok yet I'm losing my outer eyebrows, which is a sign of thyroid issues, so I just had further tests done.
I take it that you're experiencing thyroid issues? I'm not sure of the symptoms for it, aside of weight gain if you're hypo and weight loss if you're hyper.
I have low thyroid and take Synthroid. My symptoms were hair falling out, feeling cold all the time, outer edges of eyebrows missing, fatigue, pain in muscles. All symptoms except pain and fatigue went away after starting synthroid. I was later diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was sent to a rheumatoid dr. for treatment of very bad wrist pain. Hard to tell which came first.
I too am hypothyroid. I was always a 'a little low' but not 'low enough' to do meds. Then I crashed. My rheumy is the one who figured it out. I was exhausted, crying, gaining weight, shed like a yetti... I tried synthroid, it doesn't work well. Changed docs and tried a compound thyroid from a good compound pharmacy, pricey but good. Then I discovered the book, "Stop The Thyroid Madness". I am now taking Armour Thyroid, from same compound pharmacy, about $13 bucks a month, I take two pill in the am, two in the eve. Working well. The book has great info, laymans language, and studies to back up the knowledge. Is also the name of the authors website. Armour Thyroid is 'dessicated thyroid', made from dried pig thyroid. It carries all the elements of the thyroid, which synthroid does not. It is only T4. Our thyroid produces T1-T4 plus calcitonin. Check out the website. Everything on it is in the book. Good luck!
Mike, there is another thyroid discussion going on that might interest you and your friend. http://forum.livingwithfibro.org/forum/topics/hoshimotos-disease
