What pain medication do you take?

C[quote=“Jo11, post:1, topic:392, full:true”]

I'm just wondering what pain medication (and the dosage) everyone is taking, and how much it helps. The tramadol I've been given doesn't help hardly.

I would like to tell my doctor what helps other sufferers so that I can find something that may work for me too.

I'd really appreciate the help because it is serously getting me down.

Thanks!

Hi Sue.1129 I was reading some of these post on what people take for pain and it amazes me how many take either Lyrica or neurotin. I guess depending on the amount of time we’ve had FM most of us are either trying to find the best medication that works or just stick with what we have and put up with it.
I’ve been taking OxyContinER for several years and it works. I tried all those other drugs first like Lyrica and neurotin, It wasn’t worth the weight gain plus they didn’t work for me. The problem is these narcotics have such a stigma, people are afraid to take them. I hear people say you get addicted, when your in a lot of chronic pain it’s best to take something long lasting so that you’re not popping one pill after another to get relief. And if you’re not doing that you probably aren’t getting relief. But there is a difference between being physically addicted and becoming dependent. I mean if you have chronic pain you have to weigh out, is the pain bad enough that it would be worth it to have a better quality of life. And when you take the extended release you aren’t feeling the whole affect like you do with the short acting, it just slowly releases throughout the day. Lasting longer. Then you don’t feel like you have to keep taking more. Unless you have bad pain and need breakthrough medication. This works so much better, I can function better and deal with the pain better.
The only problem is if you decide after so many years that you want the dose increased, I made that mistake. I mean it still works for me well, but I do feel more tired, along with the fatigue that comes with FM.
I am always looking for answers too like most of us I’m sure. And I noticed your post Sue that you were taking adderall. I have ADD and I was doing some research and found that ADD and FM have a connection. In fact that was what I googled because I have been feeling my ADD symptoms really bad. I didn’t pay much attention to them before but now I found that it’s all connected and it makes so much sense.
I don’t know if I’m allowed to say what book I found, so I’ll just tell you a little about it. This Dr. was prescribing stimulant medication for pain and seeing great results. Then someone with FM came in her office and she wasn’t sure if it would work for her but when she was diagnosed with ADD and FM the Dr. Prescribed Ritalin, and her results were amazing. She was walking with a cane before and was in extreme pain plus very fatigue. Then when she started on the medication it was like a miracle happened. She had high energy, and felt great!
I was very interested in this, so I looked into it. And I went through all kinds of hoops being determended because I was always active before, in fact that’s what helped with the ADD a long time before FM. I was referred to a nutritionist and she prescribed it because I explained how badly it affected my eating and did everything compulsively, I hated the way it made me feel emotionally. This nutritionist was able to prescribe. I’m on 30mg of Vyvanse and started this last week. I felt very hopeful with lots of energy and better able to focus. Now this week things have changed, I feel more tired now and less energetic. Plus I feel very agitated at times. Very uncomfortable in my skin. If you know what I mean. I was also told to cut back the OxyContin. This morning instead of taking my pain pill right away I took the Vyvanse then I will take my 1st pain pill when I usually take my second one. ThereforeI will be taking 3-60mg. I was taking 4 and before that I was taking 3-80mg. I hope I can do this I’m kind of scared along with other things I’m going through.
Sorry for all the reading! I hope you have some of your experience to share in regards to that.
Thank you.

I sent you a message :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

has anyone had relief with prednisone

Right now I am taking Savella, a newer medication specialty for fibromyalgia
and it’s been 3 weeks so far which has helped my leg pain,
but I have taken cymbalta also lyrica and some antidepressants
However, the pain is there, always. Stretching has
helped a little. I work so many hours that I am literally trying every7i can.
Wishing you well

Hi Jo, I also live in England and have been prescribed Duloxetine, I have just had my dose increased to 60mg a day and actually managed to walk unaided yesterday, ok not a marathon, for the first time in a couple of years. My husband just stood and stared at me as he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. I also wear a Buprenorphine patch for my arthritis, I hope this helps x

I’m curious as to how you went about starting trials and if it was in the U.S.would you mind sharing your sources and any other helpful information you may have with me? I have fibro as well as ME/CFS. Thanks so much!
