Another try at Gamma Knife

The following is a copy of what I put out there on LivinG W/TN. This news has brought on a full body flare, can't sleep, can't get a hold of my pain...any of it. I would appreciate you taking the time to read this post and if you're so inclined, wish me luck? Thank you most kindly!

This will be a 2nd try at irradiating the scar on my Geniculate Nerve from getting Shingles in 2011 both internally and externally.

My RO took it to the Board of RO's at Botsford Cancer Treatment Center in Farmington Hills, MI over a month ago and they just called for me to come down for the surgical consult and to sign on the dotted line a dozen or more times. Then I run over to Troy to do the same at my Neurosurgeons office!

It is possible that I could be in surgery the following Monday. I have already been approved for a second try with my Neurosurgeon so it could go pretty fast.

He promised me that when presenting my case he would tell them that I would not consider another try without an increase in radiation or time in.

I'm getting pretty worked up over this and it may not even happen for a couple of weeks. I'm just going by how fast it went the first time. Sign on Fri., surgery on Mon.

I just really hope it works this time because I won't do it again.

I'll just be on Narcotics for the rest of my dayz and boy, won't that be fun? You know I'm kidding right?

I will update when I get back home, whenever that will be ;)

Happiest of Mothers Days for all the special Moms there are here!

I am confused.....

On a medical website it explained that the geniculate nerve is in the knee. & the gamma knife is a super-duper beam of cancer fighting rays within the precise area in the brain,

Why are you having cancer treatment within the brain to block severe knee pain???

I will envision the White Light "beam" of the Holy Spirit to help you heal. M

My very best to you! I had a more indepth reply but since I added several flower emoticons, so I would be sending you get-well flowers but the system couldn't handle them and crashed. I hope the surgery goes well and reduces or entirely eliminates the scar. Plesse let us know when you go in and how you make out. I hope you get a much better result than the last time!

Luna. now I am confused. I just did a plain ole google search for geniculate neuralgia and not a knee in the group. Also Gamma knife surgery is used often in Trigeminal neuralgia and other cranial neuralgia's as well as tumors and other spinal cancers.. Another thing...to be exact, it is 192 pinpoint beams of gamma radiation, pointed all at the same thing for a calculated amount of time. I know. I had it done 2 years ago and it ain't nothin to sneer at. It's all there. Check my pictures. Just praying for better results with this one. My RO is Dr. James Fontanesi and my Neurosurgeon is Lucia Zamorano if anyone wants to read up on their successes. Both in the Detroit, MI area and I highly recommend them.

I appreciate you taking the time here. Thank you.

but please know that i am sending you lots of love for your well being

Hi Suzie! Thank you for taking the time. This is the surgery I had 2 years ago to try to stop the nerve pain in my brain by zapping the scar left by shingles on my geniculate/intermedius nerve.(right behind the Trigeminal Nerves) First try did nothing so I'm taking big chances and going for it again. I'll be stuck with what I get because I'm the first to go in a 2nd try and neither I or my doctors will do this surgery again. I have pain control with narcotics but my family hates how it has changed me. We all live together so something's gotta give. I know they have my back no matter what I decide or the outcome.

So again, thank you for thinking of me. I wish you painfree dayz or as close to it as any of us get these days.

I have to call my Radiology Oncologist and give him my answer this afternoon. I saw him last Friday and he wanted me to think it over through the weekend. I was ready to go Friday...today has me stressed right out and those who were home this morning have left to go mushroom hunting. Lucky bugs!

My gut tells me I'm gonna do this, how soon is the next question. I will post that answer as soon as I know.

Thank you for taking the time here :) Always~Laurel

I have been turned down for a 2nd try. Just too rare and the Gamma Knife Board just couldn't take this particular risk.

So now I am in the process of getting in with a new neurologist and she so far has been very thorough so I am hopeful. She doesn't think I am at the end of my options with the Cranial Nerve so we'll see what she is thinking of.

Right now she thinks the shingles is the culprit for the peripheral neuropathy in my feet, legs and head. So far she's not scared.

I have been doing physical therapy, aqua therapy, laser therapy on my feet for the neuropathy, massage and chiropractic adjustments. I am still getting pain mngt. from my neuro surgeon as they are the ones who prescribed, along with my narcotics, medical marijuana for my pain and anxiety. * Just a note for those who may be interested. If the clinic you go to is Federally Funded then they can't prescribe you narcotics if you use medical marijuana.

So here I am with pain control via all the meds I've been on for 3 years. Pretty homebound up here in the Northwoods but I have my crafts, some privacy and am getting good care I feel so, onward and upward. :)

Thanks for taking the time. I'll be back
