ANTI-INFLAMATORY DIET INFORMATION (by request)

Since there were several people asking about anti-inflamatory diet to reduce pain and help with insomnia, I will post these websites. If you have any questions, feel free to ask or private message me. I don't have a link that covers all points, so I posted several. I follow the anti-inflamatory diet plus I have additional allergies/sensitivities to certain foods so I eliminated those also. You have to figure that out for yourself and one of the links mentions "elimination" for foods that you may be sensitive to. As my doctor explained to me, once you get your system straightened out, you may be able to add some of those foods back into your diet. But that takes time. I've been struggling with pain and fatigue for fifteen years and have tried everything that's come down the line, but this diet has done the trick for me and now my problems are manageable. I have been able to go off all medications and not suffer like I used to. I have a post in the sub-group section Success Stories that details what I eat also if you want to read that. I try to buy organic foods as much as possible and read all label ingredients. I see an MD who practices a holistic approach to medicine, so that has been extremely helpful, since I would not have ever known about using diet to decrease inflamation if not for that.

Here is an online book on Anti-Inflamatory Diet..... http://books.google.com/books?id=GCUXNlKCbfYC&pg=PA18&lpg=PA18&dq=anti+inflammatory+diet+and+fibromyalgia&source=bl&ots=0RVv7MWQGn&sig=CLSMMfAzqOyZDeIGAhQhGqtAGjM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=arHlUPvaLsOi2AXwloGgDg&ved=0CHsQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q=anti%20inflammatory%20diet%20and%20fibromyalgia&f=false

IMPORTANT: Some of us, who have been made aware by our doctors, are also suffering from candida/yeast overgrowth in our systems and leaky gut syndrome, so I am posting link for that too. If this is going on in your body, you won't be able to improve your health. It needs to be treated properly, since it is a big cause of inflamation and many other serious and chronic problems stemming from it. Here is a link that explains it.

suzq, don't forget to watch season 3 downton this weekend :')

About 3 weeks ago, I developed bronchitis. I was determined not to go to the dr.(I don't have a good one, yet, but a couple of recommendations.) Last winter, I was told I had asthma and suffered all winter, then was finally prescribed prednisone and then I suffered from that, then finally coughed up something that made me think it was definately not asthma. I finished the episode with colloidal silverthat I bought on my own at the health food store. Since I did not want a repeat of that incident, I turned to the internet. I found the "bronchitis diet" which is basically a 3 day fruit juice fast followed by a couple of days adding vegetables and then other foods, which I don't remember. The idea behind this diet is to remove inflammation. I decided to look up inti-inflammatory diet which is the same as the one mentioned here. Anyway, after considering the realities of my life (work, family, limited budget and understanding,) I did fruits and vegetables for a week: smoothies with soy protein, fresh vegetable juice, and cooked unflavored vegetables with oil. When I became too run down and sad, I ate a couple onces of meat. I also included mullien, osha root, and lobelia extracts and colloidal silver. I had the acute stage of the bronchitis kicked in a week! Now I just have a little chronic cough that is slowly clearing up. I include soy yogurt (severe allergy to dairy) also. My fibromyalgia does not bother me as much either. I am getting the deepest sleep I can imagine, I hurt a lot less, and my skin looks much better. I just started my period and had only 3 days of mild symptoms instead of the usual 7 day (I remember when it was 2 weeks of severe symptoms...almost lost my job) I feel so much better that I will be staying on this diet. My husband is impressed because my attitude is so much better...and I've lost 4 pounds. BTW, last year when I eliminated (more like greatly reduced) wheat and sugar, my brain fog cleared up.

pglos,

Wow, thanks for posting your story and your success with your change in the way you eat. I hate to even call it a "diet" anymore because it is just a new way of choosing foods that are anti-inflamatory and healthy for my body.

Since following the anti-inflamatory diet I have lost all water bloating and all the things that you mentioned. It's the best thing that I've ever done to improve my health and feel better. I'm really grateful to my doctors who educated me on the benefits of the diet. And they practice what they preach.

Your story is awesome.

Ally

This is AWESOME Ally !!

Thanks so much for the information, it's going to help so many of us.

Hugs!
Renie ♥

You're welcome Renie.

Hi Ally,
this is so encouraging… Yesterday I clicked on the first website you listed and never got back to your post, because after reading I immediately started looking for the book.
Thank you for this info… I really do believe a lot ( if not all) health issues are related to our diet !
Great news my son who has been a vegetarian for 11 years has agreed to see a nutritionist, his diet has been poor ( mostly carbs & sugar ) and he is finally listening to me about the importance of healthy food choices !!! Yaaaa
Hugs & blessings

Dee,

I, too, believe what you said about health issues being related to our diets. I'm glad to see PBS airing many shows on this subject so that it reaches millions of people. Good news about your son, that's great. :')

I went gluten free three years ago. And did an elimination diet to figure out what I can not eat.

I now get lots of sun via my forced mile walk every day. The dog barks till I take her on a walk. I have built up from barley a block to a mile. in 6 months.

With going gluten free I have eliminated most of the pain that I once had, and the seeming drunk at times. I have also maintained losing 20 pounds. From blot I lost 6 inches off my waste the first week I went gluten free. My HDL has gone from 19( about to have a hart attack) to 48 then 54. I am off my Blood pressure meds. Even if you are fat, like I was, and constipated mostly you can still be gluten intolerant. I know some fibro people this has not worked for. But if you bloat and have a round tummy Please just give it two weeks. I have gone from mostly bad fribro days to just a few a month.

It is not a cure all, I still have to avoid stress and take good care of me but it is about 80% better.

I'm bumping this up for another member who requested information on the diet....Ally

I wanted to add this discussion information that was posted on LWL by member Ann A. Thanks, Ally

This animation was created as an advertisement - how it provides a good visual for helping to understand the "Gut-Brain Connection and leaky gut syndrome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zlJ8CztFO8

One of the things that leaks through and sets the stage for an immune reaction is undigested food. When we get our digestive system which contains 70 percent of our immune system functioning well we are on the road to all around good health. The connection between our gut and our brain - well if we do not take care of what we put into our guts - our brains will not continue functioning within normal parameters.
