Anyone tried Coconut water?

Seems to be the latest and greatest to keep us hydrated, but surely the Polynesians have known about it's health benefits for centuries. Anyone tried it, or want to?

I've not tried it, but I might! I love coconut, will have to see where I can get it.

Me too, Lucy, I keep coconut cream here to make my grandson smoothies! I have even seen the coconut water, even in Wal-mart, and was delighted to see it either comes in glass or cardboard type packaging. It's too pricey to drink only this all day, every day, but could certainly help us at times of illness or on occasion!

Will look round for it here in the UK, sounds nice, a change to normal water!!

With my meds I've not had an alcoholic drink for over 2 years now and I miss something nice to drink!

I wonder if it's like Malibu, but without the rum..........ha ha ha.

I have tried this and I love it. I'm not much for drinking water. I like the sparkling waters better, then I found the coconut water and boy, is it good! It is suppose to be a good de-hydrater. I guess anyone would like it if you like the taste of coconut. It doesn't have many calories either. But, make sure you get pure coconut water, not coconut milk. There are a lot of brands out there so you just have to find the one you like.

Gee, how about a pina colada with coconut and pineapple! that sounds good too!

I don't like coconut. Tried this and hated it. So it is all about your taste buds. lol.

Well, then for sure you won't like it. Try some of the vitamin waters they have now. They come in all different flavors.

I’ve never tried packaged coconut water, but when I was in Vietnam there were vendors everywhere who’d machete a coconut for you to drink the water from directly and it was insanely refreshing in the heat–felt more hydrating than the liters of water we drank throughout the day, by far. I feel dehydrated all the time now, though I probably drink upwards of 100oz of water a day, and on hot days I will occasionally stop at the Asian market and grab a coconut to crack open and drink the juice. Ahhhh…

Oh, you are just the gal I need to talk to, I have tried and tried to crack a coconut, but obviously don't know how, my grandson always wants them at the market and I finally bought one, and showed him just what I meant! lol!

Can you tell me how to open them and still have the juice/water? BTW, I do not own a machette!

Without a machete the only way I’m familiar is with a hammer and nail, you can drain the juice out and then crack the coconut more easily to eat the meat. Here is a tutorial:

Thanks!

wow, you drink A LOT OF WATER! good for you but if you still feel dehydrated I would check that out with my doctor. Isn't that a sign of diabetes? Lately, I have been so thirsty all the time, I keep blaming it on the weather since I live in Hawaii and the temperature is always warm. But I never felt the "urge" to drink so much, almost like I have to have a drink, like Now! so that's when I got the coconut water and it quenches my thirst.I also drink this aloe drink as well; it is good but just doesn't quite satisfy that a carbonated drink does. I'm trying to stay away from diet drinks as well.

I'm sure the coconut juice is, of course, better when it is from the coconut directly, but sounds like a lot of work for a drink! When I lived in Mexico, they had fruit stands, fresh coconut, mango, pineapple and they put cayenne pepper on it if you liked and, of course, squeeze of lime!! very refreshing!!!

I remember years ago my dad drilled a hole in it and poured the milk out that way, much easier than trying to machete it I should think, also you don't waste a drop!!

UMMMM!!!!!

I've found it here in the UK, like you said, it's not that cheap, but as a change now and then I think it will be nice.

I'm getting a bottle today, £3.50 here for a litre, so less than a bottle of wine, which I can no longer drink, so it'll be nice even just to have a glass each evening!

Will let you know if I like it.

I'm turning into the "coconut woman"!! I already use coconut shampoo, conditioner, showergel and body lotion!!!
