The Scottish government are a bunch of self serving idiots for the most part, that said they are a darned sight better than the Westminster government who treat people like things to destroy so they can get richer. We have a weird political system here whereby we have influence from both, Westminster has the final say in things but usually defers to the Scottish government on issues, and in return the Scottish MPs don't get themselves involved in questions involving England and the rest of the UK xx
Yeah Mike it seems like conflict of interest. In 2 countries I applied for disability and both sent me to gov't employed doctors who are paid to save the gov't some money by denying you disability. You need to find a disability lawyer. They don't charge you unless you win, then they charge a small percentage of your first check, which will be large, because the gov't has to make the payments retroactive to when you first applied.
Your hot water bottles are latex? Ours are pure rubber with a hard rubber lid.

Yes its diufficult I know a few suggestions. Quilt , lots of layied cloths, hot drinks , warm socks, hot water bottle. Hope they will help.
Latex is pure rubber... although I am not too bad when it has been galvanised. Even the ones that are not made of latex tend to be coated with it though :( xx
I am trying some of these... I think I am going to wait until the washer dryer has finished and then bravely charge in, steal some hot clothes and be all happy for a few minuted. As for warm socks... I am thinking of microwaving an existing pair after lightly spraying them with water :) xx

Cold is our enemy for sure! Those little heaters are great, though they work best in a small area. Sometimes I even use my oven to warm up the kitchen quick, just open the door up, or put a roast in the oven so you're using it multipurpose, you'll still get substantial heat out of it.
I hope you can get through the winter and be in a better position next winter, Scotland is so close to Iceland!

Good idea, I throw my bed clothes in the dryer before crawling in to take any dampness out of them! It is not just the cold but the damp that gets us!
We are only a little below Juneau, Alaska, in terms of out latitude :(. I have just been out with Rossi... since Peter is here we have the heating on for a while... it is still cold but better than freezing :) xx
That is what happens here... it is so damp in this flat that something laying about for a while will get damp :( x

Being allergic to it is horrible... because when I learn something is latex it often involves a load of creams, pills and a visit to the doctor or hospital depending on how my breathing is. Fortunately I can tell when things are latex by holding my hand near them as it warms up quickly.
Elastic bands, condoms, balloons, inner tubes... literally loads of things are made of the stuff :( xx
I saw the freezing weather on Sky news this morning, I was up at 4am and nothing much else on. from Australia it looks serious, we have our problems of course, floods and fires, but I have to admit with my hypothyroidism the sound of the word cold was enough to send shivers through me.
As an ex Londoner it sounds so silly that they won’t increase your funds so that you can have the heating on, especially when this winter has been so severe, there is no flexibility in their decision making at all. Think warm thoughts and snuggle up to the warm blanket and hot soup. Good Luck you never know what’s round the corner. Cheers Barb, a drambuie sounds warm!

We run dehumidifiers, Mike, 2 in basement, and I always keep one up here too! You would be amazed the water that accumulates, it really takes out the dampness, just take care not to make it too dry or you'll be getting sinus infections!

The problem is I am still appealing the decision that I do not qualify for help... which is great in that they will maybe one day have to pay it but it is no help during the cold... the whole process is so hard to stand... it is driving me crazy.
Having a honey snuggled up to me sounds fun but not very practical lol... then again I have plenty of foggy moments and give people weird suggestions :P xx
