Do You Like to Find Treasures at Thrift Stores?

I love to bargain shop at thrift stores and yard sales. I can get a top and pants or a skirt for about $9.00 at Good Will. Once, I found Wet Seal brand cropped, black pants for 50 cents!

What have you found at a bargain place that you just treasure?

I found these really cute small dishes that you could use for dessert. They were purple and white, with a pretty design on them. I think it might have been birds? At any rate, they were so cheerful and only 50 cents for the three of them.

I love this topic, GYN. And I love thrift stores and yard sales.

I found cool blue square mugs that stack into a sqaure on a piece of wood. I found them at a home thrift store. I think less than $10. I had been wanting those every since I saw them in Juarez, Mexico.

YES!! The Thrill of Thrifting and Tag Saling

Back in the day when I needed such things: I found a red taffeta Dior cocktail dress at Salvation Army.

It was expensive - $5.00. LOL

Yes, how nice! Thank you for sharing. I was looking for a long time for a messenger bag. I found a hand sewn leather one for $4.75. I have worn it out almost. I hope to buy leather and use this one for a pattern!

Hi Graveyardnerd,

Yes, I do, I love flea markets, yard sales, auctions, thrift stores, antique shops, though I seldom get to them anymore, and have little room to add much more. I tend to gravitate toward things for the house, I love dishes, everything from pottery and crocks to stoneware, china and hand painted porcealin, crystal and cut glass, art glass, bohemian glass. I like pictures, mirrors, lamps, old textiles, antique clocks, and am crazy for beautiful furniture, wish I could add another wing to the house!

Being a great grandmother, I am always looking over things for the kids too. I found my granddaughter a pair of Kate Spade leopard flats that were fabulous, brought them home and sparyed them good. I have found some great handbags, kids toys, lots of movies, and things for their rooms.

I also love books, especially the beautifully illustrated and bound books of the past. I have collected a vast library on ancient civilizations, especially ancient Egypt.

It's like a grand treasure hunt and I love it! Hope I am well enough to go soon, my Mother also enjoys this, it was always something we loved to do together.

Thanks for posting this, a nice change of pace!

My daughter volunteers at our local Red Cross shop and she comes home with more clothes than get donated I'm sure! She has to be their biggest customer! I'm actually wearing a dress that I found there for $2.50. So cool and comfortable for the summer and brand new too! As they say "One man's trash is another man's treasure!"

I also found a gorgeous ornament that I fell in love with instantly. It's a chicken! Had to have it!

Wow thank you for sharing that wonderful treasure story! I found the clay earth ware dishes that you could bake an apple pie. Oh, and I found a nice two piece skirt suite made in the 1940's and it fits me! If I get this job in which I have an interview for, I am going back to the antique store to see if they have the suite.

Wow, we have Salvation Army store, but no Red Cross Stores here. That is awesome! Last week at the Humane Society Thrift store-I keep calling it the Dog Store-I found cute kaki like pants for $3! Here in Albuquerque, most all of the major thrift stores are on one street. Oh and at Buffalo Exchange, I found nylon pants that I can unzip the bottom and turn them into shorts for about $6.

Ha, when I say Dog Store, my husband thinks I mean the dog shelter pet shop at the mall. He gets nervous thinking I was pup shopping again! I rarely do malls. Too many fun thrift places.

One of my favs is a tiny thrift that goes to help battered women. And the women can get free clothing and stuff.

That sounds like an awesome shopping day for me, all the thrift stores on one street! Heaven!

I love, love, love thrift stores, yard sales, flea markets....! I had an antique / art gallery in Wyoming before we came to South Carolina, and I spent most of my days trying to fill it up! We had a 3800 square foot opera house complete with balconies. My greatest recent find has been an art deco transistor radio shaped like a globe in a funky glitter gold color. $1.00, found the same one on Ebay that sold for $158! I can't wait to resell it!

If you're into thrifting, I'll tell ya, I resell many of my finds on there, it's a great way to supplement your income! My boss's business was started that way, now 14 years later, I'm running his warehouse!

Hey what a fab story! Thank you! Yes, I have thought of selling stuff. My friend,Genna, is a cancer/stroke survivor. She doen't make enough on disability and she sells things on Ebay. Do you use Ebay? I've sold text books on Craigslist fast.

Oh how fab an opera house! Do you have pics? A store like that would be so so cool! I've always loved antiques!

I live in Albuquerque also! Your ideas are what I have been thinking of-finding gently used items, or items in thrift stores/garage sales that still have tags on them. I love garage sales, but it still requires alot of driving. The estate sales have good bargains. Yes, I have an eBay account. I can sew some pretty cool hobo purses, but it is still taxing on my energy levels.

I have donated to the Dog Store before, and Good Will, and the thrift store that helps raise funds for battered women, on San Mateo. Ross occasionally has brand name children's clothing in the clearance area.

I you have other ideas, please let me know. I live in Alameda, Northeast of Los Ranchos. :-)

Also, volunteering at a thrift store may be the way to get first dibs on new clothes....but still pretty taxing...

The grandkids grow so fast we find most of their summer play cloths there. I have found a lot of dresses and books also

Has anyone been able to make profits on eBay with their thrift store finds? That is what I want to do if it is feasible. Give me a holler if you have. I need to work at home to generate alittle money. My husband and I are disabled. He gets his social security checks, but the disability courts turned me down. It it so frustrating!
