For a long time now I swear I see things moving in my peripheral vision. Out the sides of my eyes. Lately it has become worse. I don't know what to make out of it. The weird thing about it is, I associate it with the crawling itch I get all over. I also notice that recently the crawling itch has diminished since I started the Gabapentin. But the things I see have increased since I started taking the gabapentin. I know there is nothing moving, as soon as I think I saw some thing moving I look at where I saw it and I know there is nothing there. I'm thinking that fibro affects our sight too?
What does it not do to us?
Please if you have any ideas. I go to my doctor next week but would love to hear if it affects any others.
I am on gabapentin ( 400mg x3) and don't think it has affected my vision. However, I do see floaters in my eyes, which come and go. I have had these for years, before I was dx with Fibro. These are little bits of matter that are in the fluid inside my eye, and they can float in front and on my periphery. You might want to consult an ophthalmologist. That's who was able to tell me they were floaters.
I have been wondering about this same thing lately. Thank you for posting.
It happens all the time to me. Movement out of the corner of my eyes, nothing there. Some mild hallucinations as well that I see something that isn't really there. I think some of that is from my medications...anyway, you should def talk to you doctor about these. I don't know if its a fibro symptom or something else but you should check either way.
I will ask next week when I go. I must look for an eye doctor. I'm so slow about getting that started. Hope you find out for yourself too. When I am sitting on my couch looking into this freaking computer, all I do anymore, and I think I saw something move from the sides of my eyes, I look nothing there and yes some times it looks like a large object that moved. But by main eye sight is fine. Well I will let you know when I find out what might be going on.
I am so thankful for this group! I have had this happen to me too and thought I must be going crazy! One evening I drove across town (a couple miles) to my daughters house and I kept seeing out of my peripheral vision what I thought might be dogs running towards my car! Only to find nothing was there. It happened three separate times in that one short trip. I only drive locally anymore and not much at that! I live in a very small town with no stop light so to go anywhere you have to drive about 15 miles. I just don’t trust myself anymore and get so much anxiety even as a passenger! I am so easily confused and easily distracted I feel it’s safer for everyone for me to just not be behind the wheel! I never thought it would be like this at age 51.
It sucks, to say no to things you want to do. I'm going through the same thing. Driving is the bigger trigger for my fibro, and I am a good driver, I'm not bragging but I pay less for insurance than the average driver. LOL, I'm trying to find a bragging right I still have, Because I feel like mud when you spell it backwards it is dum b there I filled in the missing letter, which by the way I'm getting better at. Word games.
I am so glad that I asked others, because I was creapt out by this for a long time. I keep meaning to ask my doctor and two appointments came and went and I forgot, another one of my famous things to do. So now I have one more appointment next week, and I know I will be fine until then, just glad I asked it may be a side effect that was never put on the label of the meds. or maybe it is another symptom of fibro. Of course I could probably just call my doctor, if I want to know now. I'm finding an eye doctor tomorrow and going to ask him or her too.
Okay, I think this may account for it. It's possible that your one eye is seeing the item as if it's at a slightly different angle than the other eye, so the item seems to shift or move when you change your visual direction. I have something where the text I am reading seems to bend up and down, sometimes quite badly. I think it has the same cause. It maybe caused by fibro, maybe something else. Detached retina, floaters, MS, etc. You would be best served to see an eye doctor to rule things out so that you know it's just your good ole friend fibro.
Barbara, I know that fibro can mimic other illnesses, and this may be one of those times but I did want to tell you that people who have MS have reported the same thing with their eyes: http://www.msworld.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111757 Again, it might be fibro or some other type of eye business but I did want to tell you about the MS suggestion.
And PS: I've had it happen from time to time while driving. Maybe fibro people are more inclined towards this optical illusion.
I had this with ultram and it got weird and worse years before i started with gabapentin.. It would freak me out to be positive absolutely positive I saw something or someone move out the corner of my eyes and turn my face and nothing would be there, this would send adrenaline rushing through me and give me pin prick pain as my hair in my arms and legs stood on end waiting for something to happen or my ears strained to hear something out the ordinary,or id see something and it would startle me and by the time i turned fully to look at it it was gone, once i woke up the entire house because i was sure i saw a black cat with a white paw and green eyes standing in my door way but we didnt have cats and we didnt find it or Id be talking to someone and for a fraction a feature would change. I told the doctor i felt ultram and tramadol was giving me nasty side effects i never truly went into details about how much it messed with me just told them i wouldnt take it which is ironic to me because i can take other pain killers just not those which is so trippy to me but thats whats so unique with meds i supose..
You are not crazy, I have had my periphel viion play triks on me as well. It is very scary, and a few times I pulled over and called my hubby to come pick me up. Have you ever driven somewhere and nt remember how you got there? Scary, I try not to drive much, for the safety of the other drivers! I'm just turning 51 yet I feel like I'm 80 most days. Gentle hugs. Stay safe
Wow, thanks for all your information I go to my doctor in 5 days, so hope things go okay. I really want to find out a few things, I also wondered if I have MS. I don't know all the symptoms but I plan to ask about that too, I wonder if a blood test can tell you if you have MS? Well I will find out soon. I can't believe how many others have the same trouble.
Visq, I have had that same experience, except I didn't wake the whole house up. LOL, but there have been times where I thought I saw some one in my kitchen, and not a some one as much as a thing. I just thought I saw a tall something move out from my view of the kitchen. It is scary, Since I know not to believe what I see, I feel fine now. But before it would scare me. So I would take my bible up and start reading it out loud until I calmed down.
Well , I live alone mostly. My son is always out. So I talk to my bird. LOL.
Jackie, I have experienced that. It usually happens when I'm very tired. When that happens, it's time for me to stop driving for the day. I used to love driving and now can barely make an hour's trip in my car. I know that eventually I'll have to quit driving and that's awful to consider. Yes, feeling like an 80 year old kind of covers it, except that I've met a bunch of 80 year olds who can outthink and outwalk me very easily. This disease is rotten!
I remarked about this at bible study. I had to answer I know I'm not crazy, but I found out that there is some one at bible study who gets the same thing, and she adds it may be floaters. So at least I'm not in near danger of anything. lol, just going to start asking questions.
I appreciate everything I read, you never know what questions to ask if you don't ask the ones that seem or sound dumb.
I've got plenty more coming as soon as I think of them. lol
I feel so badly for you ladies as it must be so scary to see things out of the side of your eyes and not know that there are concrete, physical reasons for those things. I hope you get an answer from your doctor. At least now you know that you can approach him on the subject without thinking you are going insane. Yes, fibro makes us worry about that very thing from time to time.
