I'm just curious if any of you experience more pain with extremely hot and humid weather? The weather we have been having goes from cold and rain to very hot weather with high humidity. Last winter was basically my first and it was horrible as all I had to do was step outside and it would activate more pain. Now I'm finding the same thing with the summer were having. I don't seem to be getting any relief! Is it just me? Usually my pain medication keeps the edge off, but it's like I'm experiencing flare up pain. I will bring it up with my doctor, but would like to hear back from some of you.
Well, here I was thinking I was the only one experiencing this! What's up with us, Dreamcatcher? Why is the hot, humid weather causing so much pain? Every time there's a storm I'm in so much pain! And even the days leading up to the storms. And those days are hot hot hot!!! So basically, I'm in pain most days. Like you, my pain meds aren't doing the trick, Dreamcatcher. I'm just sorry that you're going through this too. I don't recall feeling this bad last summer. Oh well, silly me, I forgot, that happened this past fall and winter too because the fibro got progressively worse. And that's what I think may be the problem - this is progressive, from my experience. Yes, it sure seems to be.
Sorry that wasn't much help for you, Dreamcatcher. I can' even think straight from the pain, so this is the best answer I can come up with. I hope you feel better though.
Well you did help! Because now I know I'm not the only one!! I was getting worried as I was wondering if my system was too used to the pain medication and it wasn't working anymore! And your right the way the weather is going I have had no reprieve. I know it sounds terrible, but I don't even want to go outside. I really thought the summer would be better. In fact my mom and sister want me to go out and go to a flea market tomorrow, but they forecast 38c so I'm not sure I'm up to it. I'll see how my night goes as I'm finding too that the Cymbalta keeps me up. Vicious circle! On another note I meet with the Oncologist for the first time Monday so I'm nervous, but know the sooner the treatments can start the better it will be.
So you're not alone in your pain and hopefully this heat wave can break and we can have some more moderate/normal temperatures. The only way you can enjoy this type of heat even when healthy is by a pool or ocean! I agree with you too fibro sadly is progressive as I see my symptoms are getting worse instead of better!
Awwww, I'm glad it helped you to know that you aren't alone, Dreamcatcher! And you know, I feel better too, for the same reason. Because by conventional wisdom, we should be feeling better. Un-uh! I am just wracked with pain tonight, in this horrible heat wave. I agree, a break in the temperature would be appreciated! Maybe the pain would recede. And I also agree that the only way to enjoy it is at a beach or pool! With an ice cold Coke.
Oh gosh, I agree with you, going to an outdoor flea market sounds painful to walk around in in this weather!!! I'm cringing even thinking of it, so I definitely get your reluctance, Dreamcatcher! If you do go, please be sure to bring plenty of water with you, so you don't end up lightheaded and nauseous.
You are not alone! We went from thunder storms with lots of rain to temps 90 degrees and over. I haven't had a good day in weeks and that's unusual for me. Today my head is so foggy I've had a hard time typing. I just don't know what to do to feel better. I've been staying where it cooler but I feel the humidity even with the air on. I csn't wait for some really nice weather.
I hope you feel better soon. I hope we all feel better soon!
Dreamcatcher, I actualy came on-line today to see if anyone was/is experiencing more pain. The last few days have been to say the least unbearable. I've been taking more pain meds then ever and in bed for almost three days. I live in Eastern Washington and we have in the triple digits for about four days. I've only been diagnosed with Fibro since Feb 2013... I really can't even start to imagine that my pain is going to get worse. It does help to know that others have the same symptoms :) Kevin
I agree I feel better in know I'm not alone with this. I don't recall being in this much pain last summer when I was first diagnosed. I was beginning to think that my meds weren't working for me anymore as the pain I'm experiencing now is getting almost as bad as when I wasn't on any meds. The feel of clothing touching my skin is becoming sensitive again so it's discouraging to go out anywhere because it triggers my pain. So let's pray the heat wave ends and we can get back to having less pain. I don't think your pain will get worse than it is now, well I hope not! For all of us! Like Dottie said try to stay cool and we'll just have to wait it out. Not much more we can do. I also tried increasing my pain meds, but it didn't help.
Take good care... things will get better with more normal like temperatures.
Thank's Petunia your so kind...I am really re-thinking this flea market thing. I told my mom I'll see how I feel in the morning and maybe we can just go visit my sister and stay indoors with the air conditioning. You know I was thinking when I was sweating and exhausted the other day after returning from my doctor's office...do you remember that commercial when they take the Nestea plunge? Well I actually thought of it and boy I would have done it in that moment that is if I had a pool! ha I think it would have felt real good!
We sure have been getting some really crazy weather so far this summer! I'm sorry your getting the fog on top of the pain as well. I think we think were fooling our bodies by being indoors with the a/c, but your right the humidity and air pressure seeps through. We just can't win! Hopefully we'll get some normal weather real soon for all our sake!!
Oh yes, extremes in weather definitely cause more pain be it summer or winter.
It seems that we experience extreme shifts within a few days. Just as you described where you live it has been the same here where I live. Two weeks ago it was 35 C. Today it is around 10 C and due to the disastrous flooding we had here in Southern Alberta it is humid when the temperature goes up. Normally the air is dry here so we are not used to high humidity. This has been a terrible disaster, one not ever experienced before in Southern Alberta. I am high and dry and grateful.
No it's not just you. You might notice that your body will have more pain when a storm is on its way, whenever there is a change in air pressure we are affected.
Thank you for your response! It is quite a downer to now learn that even summer effects us this way! I thought I would be doing some biking and walking my dogs more, but it hasn't been the case unfortunately! I remember the dryness when I lived in Calgary back in the late 70's. However, it was short lived and after one year my husband accepted a job back in Montreal. Everyone had told me that because it is dry the winter cold isn't as bad...hmm...my opinion cold is cold! lol I did get to experience a Chinook so that was pretty awesome! We went up to Banff in a snow storm and came back to Calgary later that day and it was l like spring...cows were in the meadows...snow had melted on the road and the sun was shining. It has gone up 30 degrees!
Well with so many replies I guess I really got my answer! The weather is the culprit again!! It's like we as Fibro sufferers get a bum rap every which way. I was only going to bring this up with my doctor if it was because of my medication. Initially, I thought maybe my pain meds weren't working anymore, but now I have my answer. I think my doc will say the same as your's....stay in! There was a movie years ago with John Travolta called "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble". In the movie he has some rare disorder that effects him when exposed to the elements. Well I'm thinking were headed that way! haha! Let's hope they find a solution before it get's that bad! Gotta try to find a little humor in all of this or we'll go crazy. By the way my fatigue level is bad too. I'm sad to learn how many of us this effects, but glad to know I'm not the only one. Thank's for your response and your now officially part of this little club!
Hi DREAMCATCHATCHER I DONT LIKE THE SUMMER ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS HOT/HUMID LIKE THIS WEEK IT MAKES ME VERY TIRED AND THE PAIN INCREASES ILL HAVE TO MENTION IT TO THE NP LAST SUMMER IT WAS VERY HOT/HUMID THIS YEAR ITS BETTER I LIKE THE COOL 70 DEGREE DAYS CANT WAIT UNTIL THE SECOND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER SHOULD BE COOL BUT LAST YEAR IT WAS THE END
Hi in answer to your question, yes! It has been in the 90’s here in Maine and very humid. The humidity is what kills me the most. I have a little trouble in the winter but summer is worse for me. How are you doing ?
Hugs, Leanne
Wow... Dreamcatcher, I guess it isn't very hard to find out if Fybro-ians are hurting. Feeling a little better today... Hope you get some releif soon. Kevin
Surprisingly I'm a little better tonight and thanks for asking :) We actually got some rain so that broke the heat. As the temperatures dropped and we got a little breeze it felt good. It is still on the humid side and still expected for temperatures to go back up tomorrow, but for now I'll take the little relief I've been given. It's funny because up until now I thought winter was bad, but for me I think it's about equal at this point! lol Thank's for your input it sure helps for all of us who have come forward with this to know we do not suffer alone!
