Hi, I have both Fibromyalgia and Lupus. I am not sure where one starts and the other ends. My Rheumy does not believe in Fibromyalgia. He said it is due to a misfire in the brain.
Does anyone have both? How are you handling it? I am not handling it very well at all.
Having both must be very tricky, I know some members here do have both, so hopefully they will weigh in. My thoughts are, first find a rheumotologist who recognises Fibro ( in UK they are usually the ones that diagnose ), if that is possible for you. Then try a variety of approaches to manage the Fibro ( there are groups here that you might like to join, which will help you with this). I have a 'toolbox' different strategies which help, for instance, pacing, relaxation tapes, mindfulness, ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy), gentle stretches and Tai Chi. I don't take meds for pain, but I do take meds for depression. You need to find what works for you, it takes time and is all trial and error. Wish you well.
Hi, Petsway.
You’ve received great support from others here. I only want to add if you’re able to seek a second opinion from another doctor, it’s worth considering. Although its cause isn’t yet entirely clear, scientific-based evidence has proven Fibromyalgia is a very real condition and you deserve understanding, treatment and relief from pain and its’ symptoms. Also, if you haven’t yet, please check out our Lupus community. It’s a wonderful support for those with Lupus.
Hugs,
Laurie
Thank you all for your supporting words. I am a member of the Lupus page too. My doctor is supposed to be a leader in his field. That is why I do not understand his reasoning. However, the treatment for the Lupus, in addition to the Gabapentin my internist prescribes, helps both symptoms to a point. My blood work on the Lupus is borderline and he is proactive in the treatment to prevent further damage. I guess I am just confused and want my life back. Again, Thanks for listening.
