I am currently taking Gabapenitn. I started on 300 once a day and asked to go up on the dose, hoping it would help my back pain go away. The lower dose seamed to help everything except my back, that’s why I went up. I now take 600 mg total but oddly enough it seamed to help for about a month and now I am hurting again. Not just my back, but my arms, ribs, etc. so I was wondering what dosage you are on since I have been told that I’m on hardly any. Thanks so much.
Becca
I'm on 200 mg at bedtime - such a low dose, I don't know if it's helping much or not. Back pain is my biggest complaint too, especially at night. I know that much larger doses are frequently used (1800 mg or more, sometimes). Maybe you just haven't found the right dose yet? My doc started me very low and said he wants to keep me at the lowest possible dose that works for me, so that means going up very slowly.
I take 300 four times a day, so my total is 1200.
Becca, I am on 900 three times a day. I have been told that some people take 1800-2100 three times a day. So it seems as though you are on a relatively low dose.
The max amount per day is 3600… So u have patterns u switch. To. For me i cnt sleep so doc has me take 2 at breakfast lunch n dinner and 3 before bed
Thanks everyone for the info.
Hi Becca,
I finally stopped taking Gabapentin because I didn't like the side effects. I haven't noticed that my pain is worse since not taking it. I have had a 2 level fusion in my neck and lower back so I totally understand your back pain. What helps me a lot is having massages regularly and taking warm bubble baths. I started doing ION foot baths which detox your body removing heavy metals which helps get rid of inflammation. I have noticed a big difference in my pain level. Also, a gluten, sugar, alcohol free diet seems to help also. Another thing is exercise. It is very important to keep moving as much as you can. I hope some of this info helps. Take care of yourself.
Hi Becca, I started on 300 per day and kept increasing until I was up to 2700. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia and I started taking it to see if there would be any improvement. At the highest dose I was still having pain and the meds were costing me a fortune so I reduced down to as low as I could tolerate and afford. I'm now on 600 per day which just takes the edge off my face pain but does nothing for the rest of me! I'm thinking of stopping completely but I'm a bit scared of what might happen. My Neuro told me that up to 3100mg can be taken safely per day.
Is this drug expensive?
It is a generic so I don’t thnk it is very expensive. The problem is that you have to take so many pills if you take three a day like me (it is actually six a day- one 600 mg and one 300 mg three times a day) so I imagine it could get very exoensive because of the quantity needed for some people. My insurance only covers generic and that is one of the reasons I take this and not something like Cymbalta or savella.
