We play Wizards101 together as a family. It is a terrific game for the whole family. I play with my son and fiance. We play together with other Wizard families. It is great fun!
It is called a MMPOG. It is a Massive Multi-Player Online Game. You go online and type in Wizard101. You can play for free for the first few levels. Then if you want to progress, you have to buy a membership or you can purchase worlds independently. It is very inexpensive as games go. We pay $60 a year for membership. At $5 a month it is way cheaper than going to the movies. It is family friendly. My son has been playing since he was 5 years old. We play as a family, so I can keep track of who is talking to my son. Sorry I can wax poetic about this game. We love it, and have been playing together for 4 years. The web-site is www.wizard101.com Let me know if you try it out, I will send you a friend code. Then we can play together.
Thank you! I'll have to check this out! I had belonged to Big Fish Games for a couple of years, we gathered some great games that we have enjoyed playing!
My husband actually won the Wii in a drawing, we were just over the moon to get it!
Shelyrbeane, whatever you do together as a family is the key. That is wonderful. That you are involved and knowing who your son is talking to online is so important. You are keeping this very positive instead of saying Oh go ahead and I will watch over your shoulder once in awhile. As you play together you are able to find so many teaching moments and capitalise on avoiding the sites that are harmful but they are presented in such a deceiving way to children.
Robin, it's fun playing with the grandchildren. Of course they will quickly surpass you in their eye-hand coordination. When that happened with my grandson, I would ask him to find games that he thought Grandma could learn to play. So that is what he would do and would teach me how to play the game. Of course I was not able to keep playing at his level because he was very good. Then I would sit beside him and watch him play and we would laugh at how fast he could play and Grandma just couldn't play that fast. We had fun together. The whole point is that the adult cares enough to spend the time with the grandchildren and not just turn them loose because the dangerous sites are so enticingly presented. Then you can guide the grandchildren to choose the wholesome games.
You are so right, Rachel! They surely can out play us, but it is so great to have the time and closeness with them! We play board games too. My son loved Monopoly, I played so much I never wanted to play it again, but I do, and it's cut throat all the way! ha! Often he brings his x-box down, those games are a real challenge for me, I'm not used to the controls so I often sit and watch him play, and we laugh!
I try to always have food prepared ahead of time so I can dedicate my time to them. I have also collected quite a library of kids books and movies. A recent favorite is an impressive remake of The Three Stooges, we watched it a few weeks on pay per view, now it's on HBO. We laughed at those knuckle heads 'til we were breathless!
