Hello everyone,
I’m new to this site but it looks amazing. I’ve had fibermyalgia for 2 years now. It came from nowhere. I look back and I’ve probably had it longer however it’s when it escalated to the point I lost my job and my life changed.
My dr took me off all the pain pills in November. My pain is throughout my body but it is unbearable in my back and hips.
I don’t know how to relieve the pain. I can’t hardly bend over and sometimes my back feels like it gives out.
Any ideas?
Thanks Cammie
I have tried so many different meds. My doctor also had me get off my pain meds. I tried all the other things they wanted me to. None of it worked. I could not get out of bed and was in tears all the time. I went back to my doctor and told her I've tried but I can not function at all. Some can do without pain meds, I wish I was one of those. Fibro is not my only diagnosis and if I want to function at least enough to take care of my daughter then I will continue to take my pain meds along with a few other meds. Talk to your doctor about different meds that may work for you.
Good luck and happy you found this site. It really helps.
hi cammie. it sure is difficult to live with chronic pain. I would suggest to see a rheumatologist and a neurologist if you have
not already done so as of yet. before making any appointments i would first check to see if they are familiar with fibromyalgia and do they treat this. if they have not heard of it nor treat it i would be hesitant to go. I am very pleased with my neurologist that i found a year ago. He is treating me for several things one being gran mal seizures and the other pain. He listens to me and is very compassionate. I have tried many different drugs and since i dont really like drugs. I took narcotics for over 20 years and just ended up with rebound pain and the anti'd's never worked for me. one reason is that i dont have depression and even on low doses of those drugs i have bad reactions. for the head, neck and shoulder pain he is trying to get me botox which has been approved for those pains. For my knees i will go to my hubbys ortho doc and will see about those gel injections. ( orthodisc) Orthovisc relieves knee pain by providing up to six months of relief, replaces natural joint fluid and works to restore your knee joint mobility. I am sending you loving , healing prayers that you find some relief and help soon. huGGGGGGGS oh ..ps i also found a very good physcial therapist to give me tens, lazer massage and then she gives me a really good massage without hurting me. I feel much better that day with some energy and can take a walk and go home and cook some food too. i hope i can wash the dishes other wise hubby look out.. LOL woo hoo

Thank you so much for your help! I see a family therapist to deal with my emotional issues. I have tried physical therapy, acupuncture and as you know I am sure it hurts to have anyone touch me. I have my medical marijuana card and sometimes it helps. The dr I had was, awesome with my disability paperwork but crappy with the pain. She keeps saying it won’t last forever and pain drugs don’t help fibermyalgia. I sat in her office and just bald. I was like u live in this body and tell me how to deal with it. So I haven’t been back to her, I am trying someone new.
I feel like some of my family doesn’t get it. I adore my husband but I don’t think even he understand how bad it is. There are times that they want to go walk around and do stuff but after a few minutes I’m done. I have always put everyone else first and now I need it and because MOM has always been the strong one I get overlooked. I don’t know??? I get to feeling like they think it’s just me. Sorry for the pity party. Iam having a bad day
I’m new to this site too (2 weeks or so). I have found that talking to people who understand the fatigue, pain, depression, anxiety, frustration… helps me cope better. One week ago I quit my beloved job of 16 years bc of the above. Even though I feel like a “quitter” (perhaps bc of years of being told that, by my husband, when I experienced a bad flare and had to rest) I know it was the best decision for my well being.
As for the pain, I have found nothing that makes it go completely away, for me. However, Cymbalta and Percocet take the edge off and help get me through the day. A heating blanket/pad can also be helpful when there’s a chill in the air.
Bottom line, you will try many remedies before you find what works for you.
New here to Cammie, I have had FM for 5 years but just told 6 weeks ago what I had. I have been put on Cymbalta but could not take it due to bad side effects for me. I have been doing alot of reading and studying alot of FM . I really want to do natural if I can. After much much reading I started Mag, Potassium, Vit D, Multi Vit, Fish Oil,800 mg Ibuprofen am and pm and SAMe. I have been doing this for almost 4 weeks and I am feeling really good. I still have pain but not much I am so very happy with my results. Cammie read all you can about what is going on with your body you will learn so much. I wish you the best stay STRONG.
Hello Cammie,
My name is Audrey, nice to meet you. Tonight is my first time on this site and I am really glad I found it. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in Januray 2014. I lost my job last November because the pain was so intense I could not even touch my toes. I swear it was related to an old injury from when I was about 10 years old. I really know now that it was from that accident but now I'm 47 and this has over taken me. I really got bad this last year. I'm still not working and hoping for a miracle. I can't believe how hard it is for me to do the easy jobs. There is no way I can hold a full time job down. If I am lucky to work part time that would be it better than nothing. Then I would have to come home and rest up, for however long that takes.
I do meditate and it does help a little. I also like to walk and that helps for a few hours then I need another walk. Soaking in a warm bath tub really feels great too. I pray for relief for us all and a cure.
As I was reading your response you brought up an issue with me, who am I today. I sometimes think I am going crazy, living inside myself trying to be the master of complications and trying to get all I can done while I still can, because once I reach a certain point, I am totally not me anymore. I can turn into some one else and usually that is not with happiness. I am getting a doctor next month to start my mental therapy.
I will say that all of those vitamins helps me to stay less fibro fogged. I've been using them for so long because I can't keep up. I need another energy source to keep me going. Vitamins are not super pills but they at least clear away some of the fogged that my mind gets into, and Ibuprofen works better than some other inflammation reducers. I think it just helps the arthritis go away and any little amount of pain that disappears is so much of a difference.
Hi Cammie,
Never feel bad about having a pity party. Everyone here understands and sympathizes with you. We all have different stories and different degrees of pain. What is so wonderful about this group is that so many ideas and experiences are shared and hopefully you will find something that works for you too. I have had Fibro since I was a young girl but the doctors just didn't have a name for it until my family doctor diagnosed me when I was in my late 20's. Most of us have other illnesses not just Fibromyalgia so it is a real challenge to find relief from pain. Hopefully some of the suggestions you have read will help you too. I agree with the use of vitamins, I take extra magnesium, B-12,B complex for the Fibro and neuropathy. Epsom salts baths are a great help when I just need to warm up and relax especially before bedtime. I stretch every morning and do some gentle Yoga moves and I make sure I get some form of exercise, 20 minutes on my eliptical or a bike ride when weather permits. My Neurologist gave me Metaxalone, a muscle relaxer which helps a little and my Rheumatologist gave me Tramadol Acetaminophen for pain but I try not to take it because it really makes me loopy. I take Elavil at bedtime when I feel I need it for sleep but find that a dose of Benadryl works just as good. I have been tempted to try a herbal pain reliever one of my customers says works good for pain but have never heard of anyone else using it. It is called Devils Claw and if anyone else has tried it I would love to know if it works!
I haven't been on line much lately. I still work part time and sometimes I just can't get up the energy to log on! It is great to see many of my old friends are still out there with kind words and gentle hugs.
Sending warm thoughts,
Eileen (Bookjunkie)
Devil's Claw, I have heard of that but have not tried it. I also want to try White Willow Bark, I was told by some one that it is a really good pain reliever it is a natural pain reliever. But I still have not tried it. When I do I will let you know.
I am going to ask my Rheumatologist next month about it. I would love to find a good Naturopathic Doctor who had some natural remedies to try. I do see a Chiropractor every two weeks and a great massage therapist once a month that hurts like heck but I feel great afterwards! Of course that only lasts a day or two but it's worth it. Let me know if you try the White Willow Bark.
Thank you all for giving me your stories!yes I am in gabepentin 2700mg a day plus anti-depressents
I am looking forvavgym that has some pool classes. I’ve done physical therapy, and acupuncture nothing helped. Lately the pain has been getting so bad I’m not sure if I am going to be able to keep going to town
The heat on my back feels so good even though it doesn’t stope the inflammation. I can’t take any anti inflammatory because I had gastric bypass.
Thank again,
Cammie
Hello and gentle hugs to you, Cammie. I hope you're doing a bit better today.
Yes, step one for me would be to find a different doctor, one who is willing to help you find meds to help to relieve the pain more. And I do really REALLY know what you mean about that pain in the back and hips. It's HIDEOUS.
You could try a chiropractor or PT - neither helped me but everyone's different. Or massage. That helped me some. Actually, you might be out of alignment. Some chiropractors and pain management people know how to put you back into alignment. It's quick and painless. But it could happen again, so some PT might help. Accupuncture and water therapy might also help you.
Or else you do like me and end up getting a nerve burned in the back. BOY does that help for several months! At least for me. It's called radio ablation. You could ask your pain mgmt doc about it. HURTS to get it the first time but boy it helped!
Gotta go. Bedtime and I have to fly back to New England tomorrow from Florida. Oh joy.
Gentle hugs,
Petunia
I have tried the nerve burning and it didn’t work. It paralyzed my left leg for a couple hours and I fell twice so since they couldn’t explain that they decided not to touch my back again.
