I am a very compliant patient. I take all meds to the T. I follow everything my doctor says. I don’t take anything without asking. I make all my appointments. I give myself my own allergy shots and take my methotrexate as an injection even with my needle phobia. I do it all. I did my at home sleep study last night. But I will never, ever, do one again. I know for most of us it I important but “trying” to sleep will all that crap strapped on and taped on is complete B.S. I haven’t slept for days anyway. I don’t sleep for more than 3 hours at a time and I can only sleep on my sides because of all the pains and trying to sleep with all tha crap…yeah bad night and now everything hurts. My collar bones hurt because I had an elastic thing around my chest. My hips are killing me because I had an elastic belt on my waist. My lower back hurts because I had to sleep different. It doesn’t help that we had a major storm blow in yesterday that made my joints just crazy!
I really hope there is enough info from last night because I will have to refuse to do that again.
Sorry for whining and venting so early but y’all are the only ones that understand how crazy all the pain can be
I feel your pain, MrsK. I had one done at a sleep clinic and you are so right! How can a person sleep, who doesn’t sleep with all of NASA strapped to themselves? I didn’t think I slept much, but I guess it was more than I thought - but never got into the good REM sleep until 32 minutes before they woke me up. Thank goodness I didn’t have sleep apnea, but something called upper airway restricted syndrome.
Many members with fibro do have apnea so this is a great tool to diagnose problems. Getting a CPAP machine has helped them get better sleep than before. I sure hope you don’t have to go through another one. I took a picture of myself to remember how funny I looked - but I was finally able to find a doctor who used my study and find me the right combination of meds to get sleep. Am hoping they will find something that will help you get that good sleep! Take a nap, you deserve one! hugs~ Sandi:)
I took all the equipment back in this morning and the guy that reads the sleep stuff said "initially" he didn't see any signs of apnea. He said "you don't sleep much do you?" I told him I get up out of bed every couple of hours and always have. I had a sleep study done when I was a teenager because of the same stuff. I usually sleep only 5 or 6 hours a night and get up a couple of times. I knew something was wrong with me when I started sleeping 8 hours straight thru the night. LOL. 5 or 6 hours of restless sleep always worked for me before. Now I need my 8 or 9 hours of restless sleep when I'm having a flare or running fever from the rheumatoid arthritis.
I stayed home from work today because I'm in so much pain. I'm just laying around all day because of this. I'm glad its over!
I had my sleep study at a clinic also that was an experience. I did not have sleep apnea but the good that came out they discovered I was not still for more than a minute the whole time so requip and lyrica at night have helped. I hope you get relief soon.
I am sorry you endured this.
Oh yeah, I totally agree with you about sleep studies being a pain in the ***! All of the weird electronic stuff strapped and taped onto you. And you can't move! My first sleep study was done in a FREEZING cold hospital room. The cold kept me awake all night. The one I did more recently was better, but like you, I had an awful time sleeping with all of that gadgetry strapped to me. I finally managed to catch a few zzzz's and have a nice dream about John Lennon. That definitely caught my sleeping minds' attention and helped me to sleep a bit. I'm really sorry that you couldn't though. Hopefully the people reading your chart will be able to figure out what's going on with you anyway, that you were able to sleep enough to give them something to work on. But can you imagine how women in chastity belts must have felt? (I swear I could after being stuck in that elastic belt around the waist.)
Sandi, that's what my diagnosis ended up being too! My left nasal passage to too narrow and obstructs the flow of air when I sleep. But in my case I did end up needing a CPAP machine because I needed a lot of air pressure to get the nasal passage working properly, I guess. The doctor was rather surprised over how much air pressure I needed and that I would need a CPAP machine. I honestly thought I'd scotched loose from getting one but once the doc looked at the air pressure needed, I knew my goose was cooked and I was getting one. Good for you that you didn't need one!
Kelli, I have that too. Maybe the weather influenced yours to come on and then leave. Mine was horrible in Florida; it always felt like I had a tight wad of cotton stuffed in my head. But once I moved to a more northerly climate, it got much better. Maybe your change is also due to a colder spring and summer?
Wow. Glad I’ve not seen one in the uk then as I’ve never known anyone to get a proper professional sleep study. I think I’ll just accept that I sleep like crap and it doesn’t help much. I’m pretty sure I can cope without sleeping with all that to make it worse too lol.
Lol Jo. That’s how I felt after I did it…I will just deal with sleeping like crap. Its just crazy how bad it made me hurt the day after from having to sleep different with the equipment all hooked up to me. The sleep study guy just kinda looked at me crazy when I came hobbling in his office in pain the next day.
