Keeping our minds off the pain

Hello I just thought I’d ask what you do to keep your mind off the pain.
I watch netflix series. I love to watch medical shows such as of course grays anatomy, and these I found too: heart of Dixie, Hawthorne. Others like, army wives, pretty little liars, being human is my new show, although this season has really gone on the SYFY side. I enjoy season shows the best, movies end too quick for me.
Do you like to watch shows, movies, etc… Or what do you do to keep the brain focused on other things?
Hope everyone is doing well.
Joy

I like the Wendy Williams show. she also is very funny and unique. I follow several drama series. But sometimes i watch those during the day so they dont mess with the brain when i am going to sleep. ;lol.I live the music competition shows also like the Voice. AMercian Idol and soon i will watch Dancing With the Stars when it returns.. big huggggg

Great topic!

I pet my cats. I can really concentrate on how soft their fur feels - and I get a direct response in cuddles and purrs. Of course, they don't always want to be petted. . .

I also play video games - especially the ones where I can fight and whomp on things. That helps me work out frustration in a way that I cannot do physically. (My current favorite is Pocket Legends on my Kindle - it's free and it's also available free on cell phones. Older computer games I like include Fallout and Diablo - you can find old versions at stores like Target for under $10.)

Awesome  Suzie I know some drama shows can then carry over into our sleep. Oh my gosh like dexter!

Heni Haas. Oh yes our purring cat is great. I also play with my hubby xbox. We are currently playing Diablo III
We have played quite a few together

Hi tinawi.
Oh ya I love cops and survivor, American idol and dr Phil too. I like jersey shore too, I was a big fan of the MTV show real world, lol. And another one but my own daughters can’t believe I like is jwow and snooker, I love Jen! I also like Hell’s Kitchen. We had a DVR with cable but cut everything off but basic cable and wifi. And so now I don’t get to watch the current shows as much. Except for greys I’m waiting for 9, and I can’t wait!!!
Have a good night

Movies, TV, books and animals keep me sane as do, of course, all of you and this terrific group!

Yes baltimorebaby this group is awesome! I don’t like to read, I wish I did, my mind wanders too much…
Thank you for posting

Hi Joy, I love Pretty Little Liars! I just watched last weeks show on the DVR…saving this weeks for when I really need the distraction. I do watch a decent amount of TV and also read, play a couple of games on my iPad, take hot baths…taking care of my two dogs takes my mind off myself a lot too…sometimes all I can do is lie down and pray/meditate/think positive thoughts. I love Joyce Meyer’s TV program too, Enjoying Everyday Life…it helps me to get into a more positive mind set a lot of times. Thanks for this question, it’s a good one!

Things I do to keep my mind off the pain include:

  • Watching Netflix movies/series
  • Playing computer video games like World of Warcraft, Skyrim, etc. (I'm a gamer geek girl)
  • I participate in a MUSH (see below for definition). I find being a part of this text-based role playing system is really great because it allows me to be creative in writing while exploring multiple different 'alter-egos' you might say - versions of characters I've developed in my mind with my imagination who play out an alternate life.
  • I listen to music. Music is my 'zone', the place where I can think and just stop feeling.
  • I write on my book (a fantasy novel I am working on)

I know this sounds silly and geeky but its what I love and what I am good at.

Also a MUSH is a Multi-User Shared Habitat - a text-based online social medium to which multiple users are connected at the same time. MUSHes are often used for online social role-playing games. I am involved in one based off the world created in my favorite book series, Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Legacy called Kushiel's Debut.

*hugs*
