Looking for a specialist

i have only been seeing a primary care doctor as of now for this and am just not feeling very confident in her capabilities to help me treat my issues. the most recent medication is causing more issues and the minor relief i'm getting isn't worth the side effects (i feel drunk and hungover all at the same time on this drug).

here is my question - how do i go about finding the right type of specialist? i'm relatively new to all of this and am not sure where to start.

i experience mostly fatigue, muscle stiffness and pain with occassional fibro fog. i get horrible migraines weekly, but as of yet, have not experienced chronic depression - just the occassional (as I call it) - poor me, pity party.

so, do i seek out a rheumatologist, a neurologist, etc? if anyone is in the southeastern michigan area and has a good recommendation, i'd love to hear about it.

i have checked into the fibormyalgia and fatigue center of detroit, but they do not accept my insurance. (I have military insurance).

thanks in advance!

I would suggest a good internist or a Rheumatologist, but... not all doctors seem to treat this, or treat it enough to understand it. You'll probably need to call around, once you have some possibilities, and ask if the doctor treats fibro.

It's so important to have confidence and trust in your doctor. If you feel like that's missing, then I agree that you should find someone you're happier with.

Good luck.

Sharon

Hi Aras,

Fibromyalgia falls under the specialty of a Rheumatologist. Here is a list of board certified Rheumatologists in Michigan that also have their Fellowships from the American College of Rheumatology:

Rheumatologists --- Michigan

This list is by location, I'm sorry I am not familiar with the area to narrow it down for you. If nothing on this list works out, I can search further for you, just let me know!

Good Luck!
