Medications work for you and don't?

Going to doc Friday and would like to have some medications to try to feel better. I have tried lyrica and it knocks me out and I’m unable to get up for work.
I’m currently on cymbalta 60 mg and gabapentin 100 mg three times a day

I’m still in pain. Constant. Skin burns. Hurts to be touched. Back neck hands feet toes thighs shins palms fingers inside I feel unexplainable weird like a swollen pain feeling within everywhere inside to the out.

I had taken tramadol years ago but last appt. dr said I can’t take it win cymbalta.

I need something to take he edge off but not make me sleepy-er. I still work and need to work.

What works for you? What doesn’t.

Mainly what works. please post back

Hello Justamom

I take Cymbalta 60mg and Gabapentin 400 mg three times a day plus I take Tramadol as well, two yellow tablets three times a day. Since I have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis(moderate to severe) the doctor prescribed Tramadol in addition to the Cymbalta and Gabapentin. This works most of the time to keep my pain at a manageable level so that I can function. But on those days when one is in a flare nothing works. You just have to ride out the flare and hope it doesn't last too long.

Tramadol can be taken with Cymbalta , most dr are not afraid to prescribe them together ! I say find a pain management dr , when I was still working I had to take 1/2 Lortab , to get me through the 2nd half of the day . Many people couldn’t work if they didn’t have some form of pain management .

Keep looking … Until you find a dr that is willing to help control your pain !!! We suffer enough ! If there is a med that can help , no dr should with hold it !!!
Maybe you can talk to a pharmacist about where to find an article that says those two meds are used together all the time !!

Thank you all for writing me back. I will insist on a pain management dr and tramadol. It looks like maybe my gabapentin is very low to what I see online. Again thank you.

My doctor said I could have up to 3600 mg per day........if I needed it to address my pain. But I have never taken more than he has prescribed for me which is 1200 mg per day.

I really don’t like it. It makes me feel weird and very less pain. I’m afraid to take more cuz the feeling I get when I take 200 mg at a time. Kind of hazy, slow, very low feeling of almost being stuck. I assume you don’t get any of that? I can’t work if I was to take more :frowning:

I researched tramadol and cymbalta due to pharmacist telling me there is a major drug interaction between the two drugs. There is a possibility of serotonin syndrome which is quite dangerous. My doctor prescribed both together and did not tell me of this interaction. I caution everyone to research and understand drug interactions with all medications we take regardless of doctor prescribing them. I am of course not a doctor but did get this warning from a licensed pharmacist at Kaiser and backed up warning with research online.

That is why my doctor will not give me the two. So I have to find something that is similar to tramadol or go off the cymbalta. Getting the meds right is one of the hardest parts. Frustrating .

If you want to find out about fibro medications get on to google and type in medications used to treat fibromyalgia they will list all the medications with all the information about them then when you do go to the doctor you are much better informed about what he wants to prescribe, wether it's a pain med. or a anti-depressent, a pchyatric drug keeping in mind some meds have dual purposes but is really a great help

Hi there. I am allergic to almost all the fibro meds and migraine meds. I have worked w my dr very closely becuz up until last yeear i had to maintain a career in surgery suffering kin pain cuz i couldnt tolerate anything.

So the routinethat works for me is tramadol in the morning along w vit D3, vit B complex, fish or flax seed oil, vit c gummies, biotin, glucosamine, and then i eat fresh fruits and veggies everyday..no canned or boxed foods. Get the book or get it from library called eating right for your blood type. Very good book! I also get deep tissue massage every other week or more if needed. I also do aqua arobics (an arthritis class that helps me too) at the ymca when offered. I also got a scfipt from doctor for a hot tub...anytime u get rx for massage or hot tub or anything as long as u have written rx u can right off on taxes under medical expenses. Anyways .hope any of this rambling helps. I love to do art, photography, and crafting on good days

Wow Robyin I could not imagine being allergic to the meds that can help relive these awful symptoms we have. Although I’m still finding a combo that works. I’m glad you can take tramadol that is one that I really miss. Thank you for sharing

Avenk
I must say I started lyrica and I think it has saved me. It’s taken the edge off. With cymbalta I do not feel like I want to just give up. I found that I can do this. Yes I get fuzzy too and sometimes I get dizzy but it’s well worth it.
