My boss treated me with a 20 min massage today which felt wonderful until she was done then I immediately felt nauseous… Left after drinking some water but now I am so sore… Is this normal?

The message therapist I see always gives out bottles of water after and says to sip, sip, sip. She says after getting a rub down like that, it can take moisture out of the body and is best to keep hydrated. Not sure if this affects the soreness issue. I personally feel like a million bucks at least for a while.
I have the same experience with massage. I’ve tried 3 times now with the last being very gentle. It felt great while it was being done but as soon as I stand up its like my entire body has throbbing pain that lasts for about 4 days. It’s pretty intense pain! It’s seems the general opinion on massage is it doesn’t really work for fibromyalgia patients but I know everyone is different. I wonder if it’s too much nerve stimulation at once and just activates all of the pain signals into hyper drive. I’m curious to hear what others say. Try to rest if you can. Heating pads or a hot shower brings me the most comfort. Hope you feel better soon!

She did say to drink water and i did. I have heard that too but not sure why either.
I don’t think I will ever get another one anyway. I am still very sore everywhere. Thanks for your replies, I was curious if it was just me. It seems there is always something new.

Could be different for different people too. I have heard some people say it helps, and others it does not. If you don't feel comfortable with it than don't. Either way , I wish you all the best and hope that you can find some sort of relief.
Hi Mom 52,
I have Fibromyalgia and get a couple body massages a year. I've never felt naseous after one...maybe it's due to the part of your body that they massaged?
They always serve water after a massage to help you rehydrate. As for the soreness, in my experience a little soreness is normal. With Fibromyalgia, your muscles get really tight and stay that way and sometimes cause muscle spasms. A massage starts to loosen up those muscles. The soreness is probably due to those muscles starting to tighten up again. (Educated guess based on personal experience, I'm not a doctor.) If you're super sore (worse than people are after running or working out), maybe the masseuse used too much pressure or you're sensitive to touch because of your condition?
Either way, I hope you feel better soon! <3
