Pain and withdrawal

I have been on codeine every month now for 7-8 years. Unsurprisingly this blew out of all proportion, taking 30-40 tablets a day.
I went to my GP who was not too bothered about my addiction but more about his own stance in this situation.
I have now been on Butran Patches which are better than nothing for the pain but my behavioural cravings as sweating, shaking had above all what I am putting my family through.
My wife feels Subutex (short term) is the answer but can’t see that ever happening. Sorry for the rant. Had enough of all this shit and it will get sorted somehow soon xx

Hello Lawrence,

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. As you are suffering withdrawal symptoms I really feel you need to go back to your Doc, and keep going back,,, he has a duty of care to help you! Failing that find another Doc, maybe there is another Doc in the practise who may be more sympathetic? I know there are people here who are trying to help you, but unfortunately have not experienced this, nor have I. I don'know about Subutex, but I will now look it up. Please let us know how you are doing.

Take care, Anne

Thank you Anne and I completely understand what you are a saying about finding a different doctor but I can’t stress this enough that GP’s and pain specialist are so reluctant to help withdrawal with drugs. Unfortunately they are extremely concerned about being struck off ( one doc actually told me this) than rather help with withdrawal or just pain. Unless cancer understandably.
Maybe I should go back to my youth and hit the cannabis!

Hi Lawrence! I had been going to a gp for about 5 years, starting right after my fibro diagnosis because of a change in insurance. He would give me any meds I wanted in whatever quantity I wanted, but hwhenever I would say something else was wrong, he would just say it’s the fibro. Y
Today I went to a new Dr and within 15 minutes was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis along with the fibro. He then looked at my med list and said the combo of meds the old gp had me on, was causing my extreme fatigue and possibly making my pain levels worse instead of better. I am expecting to be dealing with withdrawal symptoms over the next few days. This doctor was totally willing to help me get back on the right track. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for your reply and drama you have been through sounds awful. I am at D.A.R.T tomorrow so fingers crossed.
