I do apologize to Fibrokitty and others though who may be appalled by my demeanor but as I said below, fakes who try to get money from us for fake cures make me ill.

I have taken dilaudid for breakthrough pain and received shots of it in the hospital. It is my understanding that if you follow the protocol given by the pain mgt doctor, use the medicine to relieve pain, and communicate concerns to him, you will not become an “addict.” Maybe I’m an optimist, but I think he believes you really need it because you DO need it. It is nothing to be ashamed of to use this as a mechanism to function in life as long as you’re not abusing it or getting “high” from it. I have a feeling it’s only temporary based on what I think you’re saying in your post. Is it helping? Nobody understands our pain until they experience it. I really hope you’re better soon!!! xxxx

This also needs to be a consideration.
I am incapable of driving if I take dilaudid. Excellent point, SK. The doctor always advised to take the medicine at work, if a chance I need it however I cannot function on dilaudid. Makes me fall asleep. I can take a less potent medication. If needed.
Opana is unpredictable as far as how it will affect me. I never know, sometimes it will really knock down the pain enough that I can get up and function, other times it just floors me. I mean totally. Same dose. Of course not getting proper sleep because of pain is always a factor when talking pain and meds.
So as far as not taking it as prescribed, if I had a driver on call, like these celebrities who are constantly pulled over, I would probably be taking them as prescribed, although I still want to be a responsible grandmother.
So, MY personal choice there!
