I have been suffering the last 5 days... Nothing is worse than sciatica... O.K. some things are.. but for me right now this nagging PAIN. I had my Rhumy inject my Piriformis that did not help... then called the chiropractor and he did an adjustment and that helped a little he told me to ICE it... well that makes it worse. I sleep with a heating pad wrapped around my knee and upper thigh. Heat helps but has not made it go away. UGHHHH !!!!!!!
Belinda,
I’ve had luck with Lidocaine patches for Sciatica. Also when I was taking Gabapentin I noticed I no longer had Sciatica flares.
I am sorry you’re going through this as it is terribly painful.
Hope you find relief soon!
Laurie
PT is the only thing that helped with my sciatica flare. She had me do Mackenzie Method exercises and then used a TENS unit on my lower back.
Thank y'all... Baltimorebaby I am already on Neurotin...I have some patches but they are like Ibuprophen... I will try one. dr. gave them to me and I really have not used them.... I tend to stay away from Ibuprophen and NSAIDS...stomach does not like that stuff but I will slap on a patch and deal with any issues if they arise. I need relief!!
Aberry, I have used all my physical therapy available to me trying to get my SI joints to stay in alignment and my back to stop hurting.
If I can make it to the 4th I have an appointment with pain management Dr. MAYBE it will stop before then!!!
I know it’s painful to but you just have to Ice the heck out of it
until you are completely numbed out.
I do this along with Ibuprophen and other meds. It at least gives
Some relief for a little while : )
I’ve had to get different shots from a pain management Dr.
Loveandfaith : )
Woke up this morning and it is starting on the right side too... I see pain management Dr. on the 4th... I believe this may actually be piriformis syndrome or something with my SI joints...if not both...the pain is about the same.
Hi Belinda, I hope you are starting to find some relief. I am glad you have an upcoming appointment, sounds like that is well-warranted. Hang in there, I am sending you positive thoughts. Hugs.
I had the same problem- my periformus was KILLING me for YEARS and no one could figure it out. (However my pain didn't go down my leg. If yours is, then this isn't going to be helpful, I'm afraid.) Anyway, like you, I had injections to it, which did nothing. I went for PT to strengthen my core, which only made it hurt more. I'd get adjustments from a chiropractor. NOTHING helped.
And then I went to another pain doctor. He determined that I was suffering from arthritis from my mid back, and it was traveling down to the periformis, even though I wasn't feeling it on the mid back. So I figured, ok, that could be right, makes more sense than a lot of the quackadoodle stuff I've been told to do.
So he did what's called radiotherapy on it, which is, in essence, burning the nerve. Burning it gives temporary relief, if it works, and the relief can be from a few months to a few years. You have to get dummy tests first, to see if it will work on you. Must be expensive or something.
Anyway, IT WORKED!!!!! But OMG, the first two weeks were horrible from the pain. (I've not experienced pain on the other side or in subsequent procedures.)
The thing is, the nerve grows back, and then the pain returns. It's not a 100 % relief and it doesn't help a whole lot when I am walking but at least it's not pain. 24/7.
I mention this procedure because so many other fibroites suffer from pain in the periformis. Just maybe this might help someone out there. Just remember, guys, I'm not a doctor so I'm just suggesting this as a layperson.
Good luck, Belinda. I hope you can get some RELIEF!!!
