My mother was also diagnosed when I was. She’s had two seizures in the past 4 years and doctors cannot figure out why… They’ve passed them off as stress related. So my question is, are seizures and fibro related? Has anyone else had a problem with this??
Hi Victoria - so sorry to hear about your Mother. I have two girlfriends who have Fibro and they have seizures as well. Like your Mother, doctors did every test imaginable and nothing showed up. They don't have them often and the Doctors concluded it was due to stress and possibly pain from the Fibro. When I am in intense pain, I get really sick to my stomache. Hugs to you and your Mother! Victoria - I have been trying to answer this same question myself. I have a much more severe seizure disorder however no one has successfully classified what they are or why I have them. Mine resemble grand mal seizures except I don’t lose consciousness although when they are severe I do fade in and out somewhat. My seizures do not stop on their own, once they start they will go for hours and increase in intensity. They treat it as they do status epileptus with 1-2 mg intramuscular injection of Ativan which I have at home.
They started in August 2011 following steroid injections in my spine for pain. I was hospitalized for almost 5 weeks that time and the following August for almost 3 weeks. I have a blog with video and pictures and a lot more information at http://themanhattanstorm.blogspot.com
I wasn’t diagnosed with Fibromyalgia until August 2012 hospital stay. I have had it much much longer. I am very interested in others with seizures. I am one of the top hospitals in the nation with top doctors. Everyone is unsure. They are not epileptic - as the blog shows that was a diagnosis roller coaster. They changed their minds constantly. My pain is a major trigger to start the seizures. I could go on and on. Again very interested in talking with others. Wondering if anyone else had steroid injections before they began?
My frequency varies. Pain, heat, drawing too much blood, too much physical activity (this is variable) will trigger mine. I go months without when fibro is under control. I was great until I had to have surgery 6 weeks ago. I had @12 in 5 days in the hospital and have had 8 since I was released.
Hi Victoria,
This seems to be coming up more and more lately. I haven't heard any medical papers mention this, but I think as a community we seem to know more than the doctors, it's like we're our own medical trial group !
I had a few seizures 6 years ago, and never again. But they couldn't find a reason, they thought maybe a medication reaction and just let it go. But there are several people here that have had the same thing, so I'm very curious to know everyone's experience with this.
Thanks for bringing it up, great topic!
Hugs,
Renie♥
