Hi everyone, I’m new here. My mother was diagnosed with fibro in the summer, after spending a long time struggling with exhaustion and pain and thinking it was arthritis and menopause. We display a lot of similar symptoms, I’ve previously been diagnosed with hyper mobility and since having my daughter last October I struggle a lot with stiffness and pain, and exhaustion. My God, the exhaustion! I am calling late for work so often now, because it feels almost impossible some mornings to get up! I have recently moved too and am scared to approach the new GP because my last one didn’t take me seriously. She gave me blood tests, found my cholesterol was slightly raised and told me that therefore all my problems were down to being overweight, despite a 2 stone weight loss since my daughter was born. I worry I have fibro, but don’t feel confident enough to seek the diagnosis…
Hi Amy,
There is new talk about a 'predisposition gene factor'. Here is some more info on it.

It may be good to discuss this with a physician you trust, you will know soon enough, if you have found 'your Doctor', but a Doctor is a must, medical care will help you with this condition. You may want to beging to start Dr shopping.
Nearly all of us have gained weight, it seems to be part of it, don't feel alone there!
We are all here for you, there is all kinds of information on all of these pages. You can use the search engine at the top left side of the discussion page.
Glad to have you with us Amy!
Wishing you well,
SK
Uhm, Amy, dear,
Never mind your worries that you may have Fibro. Knowing is ALWAYS better than stewing. Fibro's bad, but we do manage to live with it, despite the moaning you'll see on this sight, and there are myriad treatments that do help (but aren't cures). Tho' it is a matter of trial and era to find them (your Mum, too, should be exploring alternatives to whatever isn't working so well for her).
The loss of 2 stone (28 pounds to we Yanks) is something you should check out in any case.
Rather than going to your GP, with whom you seem to have little rapport, going on line to find a Rheumatologist (sp?) experienced with treating Fibro might be a place for you to start.
"Knowledge IS power." Keep exploring - via the web & libraries, visiting this, and other sites, and, above all, don't lose hope.
For the season - "God bless us, everyone."
Mama Suz
PS, It's true that the enforced sedentariness (plus aging) of Fibro sufferers does mean that many of us gain weight. But, in your case, the anguish you're putting yourself through; loss of appetite (also common with Fibro); any post partum depression you might be experiencing; not to mention if you're breast feeding, could all be factors. Still, you do need to check it out.
Amy,
Are your hormone levels normal?

Find a good dr. My first dr released me because he did not believe in fibro. I found another. You have to keep hunting. Good luck.
