Support groups in person rather than online

Anyone go to any? Any benefit to going? Particularly anyone go to any in the nottinghamshire Derbyshire area? I have mental health issues and get very anxious about groups so hoping by chance I might find someone going to a local group I can chat to before going as gp thinks I should try a group but I’m not sure lol

Hello Jen,

Such a shame I'm not nearer to you, I'd go with you, but I'm in Essex!

My nearest group is over an hour away in Colchester or one in Central London.

I'm happy to drive to one but the Colchester one is 7-8pm and I don't like the London Underground much for the other one!

I keep looking for one nearer.

Day time one would suit me best, I'm too tired and achy to travel to Colchester at night!!

Hope you find what you're looking for!

Love Lucy xx

Hello Jen

There was a time when I was still teaching that I decided to go to a support group, but living in a small town there was not one So, I drove one hour to the city. I kept going for three years, but unfortunately it was run by three ladies who themselves were sick with fibro and other chronic illnesses. So, it became a time when one of these ladies took over and spent most of the time telling us about herself, her struggles and some personal information about her husband which was very inappropriate.

Support groups meet once a month. What if that day was a bad day for you and you had to cancel, then you would have to wait a whole month to go.

Personally I believe that this online support community is far better than a personal one unless you can find one that is run by people who do not suffer from fibromyalgia. You can come to this site anytime night or day, in your pjs and you will find somebody on the site. There is the Chat Room if you like to engage in a conversation.

Tina I have bipolar too xx

Thanks Rachel I hadn’t thought of it like that will bear that in mind if I try a group out and see what it seems like! X
