Team of doctors?

I have seen a lot of you advising people to have a good team of doctors. What type of doctors are you talking about? Right now, I only have my primary care doctor. Should I be considering seeing someone else?

Thanks!
Jennifer

Jennifer,
I also see a neurologist in addition to my primary. Some people see rheumatologists instead of neuros.
Good luck, Kim

Hi Jennifer,

My primary GP is my fibro doctor. I lucked out with a doctor who wants to help me manage pain and other symptoms and is interested in what I have to say. I have seen a rheumatologist who did the initial diagnosis, and I have seen various joint specialists for my osteoarthritis, and even a neurologist to determine what was the cause of the pain in my feet (fibro was the winner again), but it is my GP who helps me get the best results, make the referrals and she is a lot easier to see than a specialist, especially in Canada. I would encourage you in having a conversation with your GP if there are others you should be seeing. I think that it depends on what your fibro symptoms are and what, if any, other conditions you may suffer from in addition to fibro that would help you and GP determine whether you need to see someone else. And if you are satisfied with the care your GP is giving you, then you are a lucky one too. So many of us struggle to get someone to be our medical champion. Sending you hugs.

Hi Jennifer,

I have a team of doctors that I utilize to help manage my conditions. I have Fibro and Arthritis. I have a Primary Care doctor, a Rheumatologist, a massage therapist, a counselor and a chiropractor. After many, many doctor and specialist visits, I have determined that these individuals are the key players in my coping and management of these diagnoses. For me, it takes all of these providers to practice a whole body approach to this illness. Every treatment team varies and what works for you might differ.

Hope this is helpful.

Hugs,

Sara
