Ways to minimize pain from fibro

im new to this site and I am wondering how do y'all deal with the pain of fibro and what do yall do to help soothe the pain and keep going on with your daily lives.

thanks Lovett, I try to stay stretched because I am a cheerleading coach I work out a lot but right here lately I haven't worked out at all in the past month or so. stress is my major problem. I should take my muscle relaxers daily but I am just not use to taking a lot of meds everyday and with the way I work it is hard to take them because they make me super sleepy. I have not though about vit D I need to look into getting some. I want to try more natural stuff but I don't know what will and what wont interfere with my meds I already take.

Welcome to the site. I have not been a member very long but so happy that I found it. I have arthritis in my knees, hips, neck and back. I was also in a car accident in 2001 that resulted in a couple surgery's. I struggled for years after this accident and in 2007 had to have cervical fusion. Had to stop working in 2011 and was finally diagnosed with Fibro in 2012. I wanted to keep everything natural but had to give in when the pain was too much. I have a 9 year old daughter and I have to be able to function or at least attempt to function on a daily basis. Not everyone understands but I can't let that get me down. Some days I can't do much and I use to feel guilty about that but now if I don't feel good I do what I can and just appreciate what I was able to do.

Everyone on here has been so supportive. I hope you find some comfort and support from all of us.

Hi welcome to the group
I personally mix icy hot or deep heat with my eucalyptus lotion and put it every where I am hurting. I use heating pads, and massage. And of course my medicines. Oh and warm to hot baths or showers.

Welcome purplepixie!
I use muscle relaxers - Flexeril and Tramadol for pain. I also use a heating pad, ice hot. I have wrist braces for the pain I have there. I also use Salon Pas pain patches which sooth a single area. You just need to try things to see if they help. I hope you find what you need to be more comfortable. Hugs!

Hi purplepixie and welcome! That's a pretty name, by the way.

Yours is a good question, one that we all handle differently, I think. For me, I bury my brain in non-stop reading. And also listening to music at times. Both seem to take my mind off of the pain. I use ice or Salon-Pas patches to soothe the pain. And coming here helps with that too. As lovett said, our Vitamin D3 levels are usually low, so taking it helps to keep some of our muscles from cramping. Oh yeah, and i also use a cane to get around. It keeps me from landing on my face. I also use the motorized carts in stores so i can actually enjoy the excursion.

Maybe you have some ideas of your own that you'd like to share with us. It's always good to get fresh input on our topics.

Gentle hugs and some nice, hot tea,

Petunia

Someone just mentioned that there's a new lotion with Epsom salts in it and it helps to soothe those screaming muscles. I forget what it was but it's in one of the discussions on page 1 or 2.

Hi purplepixie! Love your name! I don't really take any drugs for Fibro. I have my Adderall for my ADD, but take it sparingly since it tends to make me overdo myself (I have a habit of cleaning everything when I'm super focused, it's exhausting). I also have Vicodin, but I have to have pain off the charts to take it or be dealing with a Migraine. I just prefer not to take any drugs. You can read my story on my blog post sometime and it'll kinda sum up why. Now, I mostly take supplements and incorporate things that the others have mentioned like salt baths or heating pads. A big part of it is knowing my limits. I cannot overdo myself physically or otherwise. Any additional stress increases the pain exponentially.

I do have a few favorite supplements that I take: one is Curamin which is made by Terry Naturally. It has Turmeric in it which is an anti-inflammatory. It works great for pain. I also take D-Ribose for energy, since part of my suffering is fatigue. Many people take Vit D, but because of my kidney I am no longer supposed to take that one. I have posted my favorite vitamins/supplements on my blog for others to view, or you can find me on FB. Hope you find your much needed relief.
