What researches are learning about Fibromyalgia, the ADRA1A gene

National Institute of health reports that research has linked the ADRA1A gene to risk factors for chronic pain conditions. Scroll down to 'what researchers are learning' for more info.

Thanks SK

Thanks for the great info Sk :)

Thanks for posting this. Remember this info on genetics, SK. Kind of fits in. There is alot of ongoing research in this area regarding the many chronic conditions that are occurring. Basically says that you can be born with certain genes which predispose you to illness but that there is an on and off switch on top of gene, and depending on the conditions, that gene may turn on and the illness will start. This means it can be turned off too.

Very informative. Thanks.

Thanks so much SK. Not only was the article highly informative and fairly easy reading, it also had some great links at the end.

Thanks, Ally, nice to know there actually is an 'off switch'!

Yeah, but how do you turn it off?

MBP, Researchers have been looking at the ANDR1A gene for awhile now and, I guess, trying to figure out how to use epigenetic science to help with the fibromyalgia and other conditions.

This link talks about genes and epigenetics and how even meditation can affect gene expression, it can be changed. http://fmaware.org/site/News28b55.html?i=g6jyL5vriNaHZxABsr2ZKA..

My doctor did a lecture last month on this very subject of epigenetic but I missed it, he will repeat it. It seems, from what I read, that our behavior can actually turn these genomes off or on. That would be a whole new way of looking at therapy.

SK....Yea, but they better learn how to switch off the ones that need to be off without accidently switching some more bad ones on, in the process. Poor lab rats.

Wow, Ally, thanks for the info. It is simply amazing what our bodies can do and how mistreating ourselves through poor choices like smoking, an unhealthy diet, etc. can possibly affect us and how easily it might be to change the course of our health. Mind you, I am not saying making changes like quitting smoking would be easy, but in the scheme of things, it is relatively easy to quit smoking as compared to, say, dealing with a chronic or acute illness. Again, thanks for all the info. Good reading!
