Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been on much lately anymore. Work has taken over my life, especially these past few weeks - I have literally been working everyday. This may not sound so bad, but with the fibro that we all suffer from, it is almost unbearable right now. My pain is about an 8, can't think straight and I can't move my arms back more than a couple of inches because my back is so seized up haha. Hoping to get some time off to recover soon. So yeah, that's whats new in my world. I hope you all are doing well and having a pain free day, I miss talking with everyone on here a lot.
I hope you get some time off soon. Try to take some warm showers or baths and see if that helps. I hope you are feeling better soon and work slacks of some so you can rest more.
Good to hear from you! You have my empathy, working like this while being ill, with everything else life demands is a lot! Hope you have a good Dr who is taking care of you, and that you have some time to rest and recharge in between!
I work 5days a wek as a waitress. I work thurs through mon every week. I tgim tomorrow. Just about in tears today. It is so freaking hard! I am so sick right now from the pain, can’t do anything at home, it is so ridiculous. I truly used to enjoy work. I get to work 5:30 to 3:00 tomorrow , lucky me.
I’m not sure what to do. I’m not sure how long I would have to be off work to get disability. I don’t know how I am supposed to quit a great paying job and hope to get approved.
This disease is so debilitating at times. The pain and fatigue is so overwhelming. I’m sorry I just poured out everything to you. I’m sure you understand. I think I will find out a little more about this in the discussion board. I cannot work much longer. Thank you for listening.
Gentle hugs to you.
Take care of yourself, Miss Ahava! Fibro has a way of sneaking up on us and becoming worse when we're working our butts off. Be aware of that and try to get as much rest as you can on days off and downtime. You are exhibiting classic flare brought on by work. I worked and worked and worked until I was in agony and without any energy - literally didn't have anymore energy to get up, to live, to even look for another job. I had to end working full-time at that point. You must watch yourself and did not put yourself over the fibro "cliff," where your pain and exhaustion is too great for you to move/think/react/work.
You are safe here and can say what you want about your illness. I'm just very sorry to see you at this point, but it's so, so familiar. My recommendation is this: if you have the energy, gather your medical records (if your doctor gave you a receipt with your diagnosis on it) and put them in a file folder, filed in order. And write down all of your doctor's appointments in a date book for future reference. Should you need to file for disability, these things are a necessity to have your hands on. Also, write down all of your medical issues. All of them. Something that seems silly to you might be important for your future SSDI case, including any mental health issues.
This way, you don't have to think about it today but you can also put aside those papers, just in case.
I'm not sure that any of us get a choice in working vs. nonworking when it comes to fibro, Mommy. I wish I could say that working with fibro is do-able but I'm not sure that it is. I think you know that too, deep down, but the thought of quitting and applying for SSDI is horribly scary. I'm not going to deny it, it is. But I'm not sure we have a choice in this.
Could you get unemployment if you quit your job? I'm not sure. If you decide to leave, maybe you could have your boss write in your file that you left due to your fibromyalgia issues. That's what I did. It was true.
Here is some info re: quitting with a disability and trying to get unemployment. I'm not sure if this would apply in your case or not, as I don't know if it would be considered a workplace disability or not. Best to talk to a lawyer.
Workplace Disability
If you develop a disability that your employer is unable to accommodate and you are forced to leave your position you may be eligible for unemployment benefits. You are eligible for benefits in this case because an employer is almost always required to make accommodations for your disability as long as you can still perform the essential functions of your position. Your employer is not required to make accommodations for your disability if the cost of making improvements is prohibitively high.
