1st appt with pcp since I was diagnosed

Any words of wisdom she hasn’t been very helpful in the past as she knows I haven’t slept more than 3 hours at a time in months. Any and all suggestions would be helpful here thanks

Maybe it's time to get a new PCP if you can. There's no reason for her to not offer you some remedies in an attempt to find a means for you to go to sleep. I don't yet have this issue so cannot offer you any info on what helps for sleep but am hopeful that others will see this and post, as it's a very common fibro problem.

My doc offered me a muscle relaxant for sleep. I didn't like it as it didn't help but others do use muscle relaxants. Also amiltryptiline is used and boy it can really knock you out, so it might be worth looking into.

If nothing else, I'd definitely make an immediate appt to see your doc if you cant change docs and push for a sleep aid. Push push push. Explain how disruptive lack of sleep has been for you and that your safety could be compromised by driving while exhausted, etc. No one should have to function on only 3 hours a night.

Good luck with this. I really feel for you. I'd be ripping peoples' faces off in your shoes, so you're doing a great job of holding yourself together during this trying time.

Unfortunately I have turned into a bit of a monster

Mel, lack of sleep and pain have a way of doing that to us.

Can you tell us if another doc is a possibility? And do you know why your current doc isn't helping you with this issue?

Truly, the key to controlling your stress and some of your pain lies in your getting a good night's sleep, so it is urgent for your doc or another doc to get on the stick. It's just utterly unacceptable that your doc hasn't addressed this for you.

Keep me posted on this, please, Mel. I want to know how you make out. I'm just so mad thinking about a doc letting you go on like this.

Well I was just diagnosed last Monday and Friday is my first appointment with her. I have been keeping a very detailed journal since Thursday for her to look at. Also have a list from my fiance of all the things he’s noticed

Another note I am on temazapam for sleep but it seems to me that I’m waking in pain but still pretty sleepy.

Hi Mel, taking a list of your symptoms and circle the ones that bother you the most… Specifically ask this dr if he/ she is willing to work with you and help manage these symptoms. Sleep is a huge problem for most of us as we wake frequently with pain , or can’t sleep at all because of pain or side effects of other meds.
Since this is your first apt after being dx, I guess you need to get a feel for if this dr. Will treat your fibro or not?? I have learned to come right out and ask, and one dr. Actually told me maybe you should see so & so because he likes fibro… Really … Well I appreciated her honesty she did not want to treat it, and I did not want to waste my time Or energy
I think you will have a better feeling after your apt, but tell her about your prob sleeping, if she doesn’t offer something , ask how are we going to address my issue sleeping ?
Hugs & blessing

Hi Mel,

Dee added a very good note about how to proceed in your situation. I think she's right on the money in her suggestions. Especially in asking your doc if she is comfortable with treating fibro. Some docs are great at it, while others stink with it. You want to have one who not only believes in fibro but who will actively treat it.

I don't know anything about your sleep medicine but i do know that I usually wake up in pain. In fact, my worst pain seems to be at night and the early morning, when I first awaken. I think most fibroites find this to be true. But you definitely want to see if she can help you with this.

Good luck, Mel!

I actually have a rhumotologhis he’s the one that finally diagnosed me. I feel like if I even mention that to her she will think I just want drugs :frowning: if I just wanted drugs I wouldn’t have spent over 5000$ on health care in the past 9 months I’d have just bought it on the street. I feel like I’m being punished not only for having Fibro but for being honest and doing what I think is the right thing but I’m starting to get pretty desperate
