Amitriptyline

Hi everyone. I saw my doctor today and we are stopping the Neurontin (too many side effects) and trying Amitriptyline at bedtime.

I've researched it (and did a search here), but I am wondering who here takes it and does it work for you? Specifically, does it help with pain during the night and also with sleep?

Thanks!

Sharon

I just started taking it about a week ago. It knocks me out at night. The first few days I had a hard time waking up in the morning. That seems to be getting better. I have not noticed any improvement in the pain yet. My doctor said it will take a couple of months.

Thanks Sunny! Can I ask what dose you take? I was given 10 mg, but I plan to cut it in half (so 5 mg) until I see how I do with it. I get up at 5:30 am and I'm out and driving at 7:15 am. I have to wake up and go. Lol.

I am taking 10mg. It made me very drowsy at first but it seems to be getting better. I started taking it last Friday so I would have the weekend to decide if I can handle it. Hope this helps.

Thank you. Maybe I'll wait to start it until Friday too. :)

I've just started it about a week and a half ago. I'm on 20 mg now up from 10. So far I don't think i've had any bad side effects, it does help me get to sleep and i've been dreaming a lot more (so maybe into REM sleep faster? hm). I've read it can take quite a while to work so i'm hoping :).

Hi sharon i am taking amitryptiline 10mg. It puts me right to bed and i sleep through night. I have been taking for over a year and it hasnt helped with pain at all. But i love the night’s rest! It’s unbeatable with no side effects just take it an hour before bedtime to keep grogginess away on morning. Good luck!

Thank you Emma and Baltimore!
