Two days ago I bent over and when I went to come up there it was massive back spasm. Iv had these for years now but this has made it constant. Finally after 2 days my pain dr finally is getting me n this morning. I thot I was going to have to go to the er. Its a sharp pain from my lower back that goes down into my hip then down to my knee. Like I said iv been dealing with this for at least 8yrs but its been off and on this time its not letting up . Iv used a heating pad for 2 days with little relief. Any suggestions for any kind of relief. I no my pain dr wont do much I dont think he even believes n fb . He just says everything is arthritis related . Im trying to find a new dr but for now hes all I have
I'm glad your going to a doc, because it could be many things. The exact thing happened to me. I was bent over brushing my dog and when I stood up, OMG. Went to the doc and was sure he was going to say, pulled muscle or something. Turns out I had shingles. (he found a very small rash on my stomach). The pain was unbearable, it felt like someone had stabbed me in the back and it went through to my stomach. Then the pain would shoot down my leg. It's best to go to the doc first whatever it is. Good luck, (and you need a doc that believes in fibro). Charlie :)
I agree with charlie- Having a Dr. who believes in Fibro is so important! The same thing has happened to me, and yes, I think you should check it out with a Dr. However, when it happened to me, I went to my physical therapist and she used a type of manipulation and I got immediate relief. I hope you feel better soon!
Well iv been sitting here an hour and its killing me to sit here but ill let u no what he says. Im still on the look out for a new dr. Its so frustrating to b told everything is just arthritis.
Have you thought of trying an Osteopathic Dr.? That is where I finally found answers to my symptoms. Plus, they can help w/pain by doing manipulations.
I have seen my primary from there a rhumatologist to a pain specialist and a chiropractor. Not much help any were. I live n a small town and would have to drive aways to c anyone else.
Hi Callie!
Sorry you are in so much pain. So, they say it's arthritis, so now you have a reason. Now you need to find out what kind of arthritis it is. There are many different kinds that are treated in different ways. I have Psoriatic arthritis, the spondylitis type, meaning it primarily attacks the spine. It is autoimmune, meaning it throws the immune system into hyper overdrive and causes considerable joint damage, but because it's systemic, means it is also attacking every other cell of the body including my vital organs. For this I am given an immune suppressant, Enbrel. These biologic meds are considered the meds of the future as they bypass the systems that make us have so many side effects, and go directly to the very cell where they are needed.
biologics to slow progression of autoimmune arthritis
The only arthritis I know of that is not autoimmune is osteoarthritis, but there are specific meds to help slow the progression of that as well.
I am surprised that the PM specialist diagnosed this and a Rheumatologist did not! However the PM Dr is using x-ray to guide the injections, so he has a good look at your joints. I had to go to a second Rheum before I was dxed, and all he had to do was look at my pitted fingernails and ask if I knew of anyone in my family who has psoriasis. I told thim though I did not have psoriasis, all of my grandkids had it, told him they got it from my mother-in-law, he said "No, they got it from you"!
Hope you soon find 'your doctor' who can make some good things happen for you! don't give up! There is relief out there for you, believe me!
Wishing you well,
SK
Thx SK I will do that. That is very informative.
Please feel welcome to join us on the sub-group 'fibromyalgia and arthritis', just click groups at the top. I am always searching for new meds and procedures for all types of arthritis. We currently have 104 members!
I will do that.
Hi Callie,
I'm sorry that you're suffering so much! So if it's arthritis, then what in the heck is your doc doing to treat it? As SK says, there are different types of arthritis, thus different types of treatment. For instance, I get bad back/hip pain that's caused by osteo arthritis. My doc burned the nerves that were affected, which has given me some relief. (But, oh man, the recovery time was hideously painful for 3 weeks, just to let you know.)
Like everyone else here says, you need a doc who believes in fibro or else you're dealing with a lost cause.
I hope you got some good out of your recent doc visit!
Hugs.
Petunia
I dont no if I should go back to the rhumatologist or who to go to. I no when its my fm im pretty sure I no which is from arthritis . My back pain I think its nerves not associated with arthritis but im not a dr but I do no my body better than anyone. I recently got a new primary dr I just have to make an appt to go talk to him.
Sometimes it's hard to tell what's what. i didn't think my pain was arthritis related but the procedure did help some. I think the FM was amplifying the arthritis pain and when the nerve was burned, once it healed the fm didn't have a means to amplify the pain. That's my theory, anyway.
I think it's a very good idea to see your primary doc and talk to him about all of this. I wish there was a simple answer/solution for this awful pain. But you've received some good ideas from others. Hopefully between them and your GP, you'll get more of an idea of what's causing this pain.
in the meantime, are you taking anything to allieve your fibro pain? Sure sounds like some sort of nerve pain...
I take Percocet and zanaflex and meloxicam . Iv tried everything out there spacifically for fm and none worked or I had a bad reaction to them.
Hopefully when you get a better diagnosis on the arthritis, some of the spasms will subside. Once I went on Enbrel, mine nearly stopped, and I had full body ones, that were so severe, they thought they were seizures.
I had blood work done by a rhumatologist and hes the one that diagnosed me with fm. He said I didnt have rumatoid arthritis just arthritis. So what do u do with that

Hi Callie, Sorry your not feeling well. I had been down with severe pain in my lower back these past few weeks. I went to my Rhuemy which gave me an injection and it took 3 days to help but only lasted for 2 days. Just another let down. So I say go with the Dr. who helps you most. Hope you get better soon, Hugs, Robin
