Bit of venting from sick lil me

I caught a cold two days ago, it started light, sore throat, sneezing, things like that, nothing to bother me too much.

So, I decided to still go on a works outing. We went to austria to go sledding/toboggan..ing...

IT. WAS. AWESOME!!!

I had a freaking lot of fun, even though hitting the bumps in the coasting slide hurt my back and butt. But soooo worth it.
The only downside is, I already started having a fever around noon, and now I'm down with fever and the usual crap coming with a good and proper cold.

What's really annoying me is, that my skin hurts. I usually like to softly rub my own arms for comfort or to distract myself, but now it feels like every touch feels like I'm having a muscle ache that hurts when brushed (though firmer touch doesn't hurt as much, it's the light touches) It also hurts by default without me doing anything and while I guess it's a common thing for fibros, it's not common for me (though I've had that before, usually when I'm having a fever) and I can feel myself starting to feel whiney.

Can someone just tell me that it's normal and will pass when the fever's gone? (which.. I know it will, but hearing it from someone else helps better XD )

*bacteria-free huggles*

Oh yes, this will be better soon. Sounds like you had some good old fashioned fun, and thats good for the body and spirit. They say laughters the best medicine, and its true. I have found that when my skin is too sensitive and everything feels prickly, compression feels so good and is comforting. I'll put on some soft socks, or the fuzzy winter socks, and it feels so much better on my feet. I wear my socks inside out if I have to, just so the soft fabric is against my skin.

Tickle scratch on my arms calms me down and is a great self soother for me. when my skin is prickly I find the softest sheet/ blanket/shirt/ fleece clothes, anything soft, and wrap up.

You'll start feeling better soon and the bug thats got ya will be gone. Drink lots of fluids to flush it out. Can someone bring you some chamomille or euchinacia supplements to help your immune system? If you don't mind, I'd like to pray for you to feel comfort and peacefull.

Get some good rest and it will move on and you'll feel better then. (((( gentle pressure hugs))))

Michele

My skin is sensitive most of the time and I agree there isnt anything iv found better that fleece and I love my fuzzy socks to. My knees and back and hips r putting me to tears probably because of the weathe changing

I don't usually have painful skin, but even before fibro, my skin hurt like crazy when I ran a fever.

My guess is that it will stop once your fever is gone.

Feel better soon!

You can go sledding? Wow. I’d say you are paying for the good times Dwaggie. I do.

Hi Dwaggie! Yes, as far as I'm concerned it is. What you are describing is how the fibro started with me. I've always been a 'GREAT HUGGER'. Real hugs not the mamby-pamby stuff!! Everyone knew there was something reeeaallllyy wrong with me 'cause someone would try to give me a hug and I'd sorta back off quickly saying "Don't Touch Me!! don'ttouchme -=-don'ttouchmedontouchmeee, PLEEAASSEE ! I'm sorry, my skin hurts !!" Frantic! Thankfully I only have that happen on rare occasions, an' I've become so accustomed to being in pain for long periods of time that I can deal with a hug, even a sorta REAL hug, LOL just can't be long. So, yes Dwaggie, some of us do believe ...... HAHA. This is one of the oodles of reasons I love this site and all of you on it !! If we wanna be whiney or angry or sad there's always some of us that are right in there feeling or going through or have been through what is happening to us at the time. So, halfhugs to you, not to rough not too soft --- the just right kind !

I have some interesting news to share. I've been fighting for my SSD since Nov. '09. So I wrote an email to my congressman! Very scary stuff for me. I received an email back yesterday ! They are going to try to help me !!

All I can say is Thank-You, Father. I, the hard head, finally threw in the towel and Let Go and Let God. We'll see what happens. If they turn me down I'm going to sue the SSA, the quack drs & the quack shrinks that work for the SSA deem themselves all knowing(*&&%&^&%%$&&(*) telling lies about people who are REALLY ailing. I'm gonna send the Jolly Green Giant to play hopscotch all over their bodies like he does to ours sometimes So There !! (Wow, that felt great, letting some of that frustration out).

So wear soft, light clothing, keep a hankie near, drink plenty of fluids and here's hoping you feel better soon, Dwaggie!!

As Always, Soft Hugs To All !! Jenni

Michele, I just LOVE the way that (((( gentle pressure hugs )))) looks ! Makes me feel like it's a really hug!

(((( hugs back atcha! )))) , Jenni

I love the feel of fleece too! Its' so, so comforting! Especially once I get home from work and can collapse into it.

Like you, my knees, back and hips are driving me wild from the cold weather. Pain has been horrid. So thank heavens for the comfort of fleece.

Yes! This!

Dwaggie, good for you for going to Austria and sledding. I'm sorry that you're hurting right now but you'll at least have a wonderful memory of your time in Austria (minus the sick part.)

Awww, Jenni, that's awesome! I truly hope your Congressman helps you to get approved. It's ridiculous that we are incapacitated by our illness, cannot get narcotic pain meds for it, lose our jobs from the pain and then cannot get SSDI! Enough, already! Let Jenni have her SSDI. Let all of us who suffer be able to get the same relief.

That is all.

Hey dwaggie!

Sounds like you had a blast! Glad you went for it, and sorry you are paying for it. The ultra sensitivity will pass, so will the cold. Vitamin C, and chicken soup with herbs!

Love and hugs,

SK

thank you very much for your words :)

Now that the fever's down to a reasonable level (was up to 40°C/104°F), I'm finally able to reply.

Can I ask what SSD means? Google just gave me "Social Security Death Index", which doesn't sound fitting. I guess it's got something to do with a status of disability and "unable to work"?

it stands for social security disiabilty. fibro is now reconized in the US as a disability. glad u r feeling better.

i love that u put bacteria free. that had me laugh.

i have never had my skin hurt per say. when i fun a fever how ever my cheecks get bright red like i have a bad sunburn and my face feels like i am too close to a camp fire. it has gotten to the point now that i dont alwasy even check my temp to see if i have a fever. i just know by my face. my bff and my mom have now picked up on how i look when i have a fever. i dont have to say anything my face gives it away.

i wish i had the energy to go sledding. if the hill had a chair lift i could manage lol. i used to go all the time but now i just cant seem to have the energy to climb up the hill again and again. i am glad that u had a great time. so sorry it made u feel so bad after.

yeah, I get a "glowy face" a lot, too, even when I'm not having a fever. Sometimes, I just heat up around the face and I flush and look like I just tumbled out of a sauna XD

Oh, we went up with a... uhm.. cabin lift thingie, not with individual seats, but with a bigger vessel with several people in it

I wouldn't be able to climb back up a mountain to go sledding more than once XD It was really comfy (even if I'm horribly afraid of heights and had my eyes closed for the entire way up) and the way down was... hard and exhausting, but so very very worth it and so fun.

Im glad you had fun!
Sounds like it was worth it.
If I get a fever, the same thing happens, and for me, it did pass once the fever went down

Just a random update from me:

Still having a fever, though it went down a bit. It seems like I caught a viral flu

luckily, the prickly skin feeling is gone, but I still get these little "electric shock"-like sensations in random muscles every now and then, and dizzy spells.

Since I haven't slept more than maybe an hour or two for the last two days, I'm... SLIGHTLY out of it XD I think I have a bronchitis, too, breathing gets hard when I lay down flat, so I've been sitting in bed since... well... pretty much saturday. In about two hours I finally have a doctor's appointment and hopefully get something to help with the breathing so I can MAYBE at least get some sleep.

I don't mind the sore throat or dry coughing, but the panting and asthma-like wheezing is getting really old really fast.

All in all, I'm a little better, but the lack of sleep makes me have some rather interesting psychologial experiences... like... an hour ago, I was checking my blood pressure with a wrist... meassuring... thing... and I looked at my arm being all.... wow... since when is my arm so long? Has it always been this... omg it's so loooong! Or having the sensation of tilting over when I'm actually not moving at all..

I think I should aim to get some sleep soon, I act/feel like I'm on a drug high XDDDD

Also, I'll totally not walk to my doc, since I think it'd not end well, even if it's only a few hundred meters (about a 10 minute walk) but I'll take a taxi, I don't trust myself that far just yet ^^;

lalala~ all in all I'm actually feeling rather okay, but that might just be the exhaustion-high (I'm one of those that get awfully hyper and act like drunk when too tired)

I hope the trip to the drs will help. I am happy to hear u r a little better. I do know how no sleep can cause crazy things to happen. I do hope that u can get some meds to help so that u can sleep. Many hugs.

hell yeah.. I've just been given 6 little boxes of different meds (okay, given, one is a spray for my nose and one is a calmative which I carry around for panic attack emergencies which expired.)

lessee if this will help XD
