I am now dealing with what I think is carpal tunnel. My elbow gets sharp knife like pain and my hands tingle. I use a wrist brace, but I'm wondering what else I could use/take for the pain in my elbow. I'm already on plaquenil, anti-inflammatory and Lyrica. The last time I was on Prednisone I had a very bad reaction so I refuse to take that. If you suffer from this, what helps you?
I had to have surgery on both hands. It can cause damage if not treated. Mine was so advanced I felt a huge relief when I woke up from the surgery. Very quick recovery.
Why don't just get it fixed its a simple op with little down time, it's better then taking all those meds all the time and wearing hand braces and such just bite the billet and fix 1 problem gone forever I am a RN I have seen this done many time you don't even need a grneral anesthetic
Hello Rosie,
If you're not keen on an op, though as mentioned before it is simple and done under a local on a day case, I too am an ex Nursing Sister, I have my wrists injected with steroid every 12 wks, but may have the op soon as this will sort it out for good, though the injections are fab. You shouldn't get a reaction like you did with oral steroids.

Like kholmes, mine comes and goes as well. I'll be good for a while, then I'll do an activity like typing or crocheting and here comes the pain! I'm not ready for op. Although I don't know if I should have my rheumy see to this or my general dr.
I had Carpal Tunnel...and because I had a pocket of "fluid" with the consistency of paste (which means, no sucking it out) that was wrapped in nerves in the "tunnel", surgery was not an option. "we could try to cut it out but if we hit a nerve.." No, I'll live with it...then he asked me who recommended the brace. My other doctor. "Unless you need it to stabilize your hand to write, for example, get rid of it!" Best thing I did. Pain was gone shortly thereafter, bump was reduced (though that's a mystery...yeah, I'm a med mystery...been that way for years...).
I got off the pain med I was on, too. I take only one med, otherwise, I work out, drink lots of water, use NU stuff. I also massage my hands and forearms when they get tired.
